Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Hank Pym's dialogue in the teaser was probably stitched together from several different points in the movie, but if Pym used the suit at all then there's no reason he wouldn't of come up with the term "Ant-man" himself.

She's only in a few shots near the end. Black hair, has a gun in one of the shots.
Nothing solid to connect her to becoming the Wasp just yet, but they might be sitting on it for awhile and potentially not until the movie itself is released. I could very easily see a situation where she snags one of Yellowjacket's suits (or if Yellowjacket only has one, steal his only suit) at the climax of the movie and helps Ant-Man out of a tight spot.

Anyone want to talk about, y'know, Agent Carter?
I liked it. I feel like Atwell has a lot to work with and that Carter's an interesting character. Her chemistry with Jarvis is a lot of fun. I'm not entirely certain about how the mystery's being put together but things move at such a pace that if there are structural issues I've missed them entirely. Carter's coworkers are just on the right side of goofy, and the sci-fi period stuff looks great. (Glowing grenades! Analog phlebotnium-detectors! Fax-machine typewriters!)
I do think the "Captain America Adventure Hour" was a bit overdone, as though the show felt their audience wouldn't notice they were defying convention without it, but whatever, it doesn't look like it'll be a recurring thing. And I wish their were more women involved in the action. Besides that, though? Pretty much flawless. I'm looking forward to next week.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.![]()
That's not what I meant. I mean the line itself "I need you to become the Ant-Man" doesn't sound like something that flows well in dialogue, and was probably put in for the trailers - I doubt the line is going to be in the movie, and that Scott will say "is it too late to change the name" after Hank refers to it as "Ant-Man" in a different context.

@Wack'd: Discussion of the TV shows is generally reserved for the show's thread. Or, at least discussion of Agents of SHIELD was reserved for the Agents of SHIELD thread, and I imagine it'll be the same for Agent Carter.
My thoughts on it are pretty much the same as yours.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."It just occurred to me that Ant-Man could be a pretty horrific movie if it had the right amount of Nightmare Fuel to it.

We talk about Agents of SHIELD here sometimes (though that petered out a bit as the first season went on), as well as the preview information for the Netflix shows, so no worries.
In any case, I like how they're fleshing out Peggy as well. Thanks to the advertising I was worried she was going to be all "badass against a prejudiced world" and not have many nuances herself that would make her an interesting character herself, but I really should've known better. Atwell herself has been on record as saying she doesn't want to be that kind of character: that she wants to be a heroine whose character drives the plot and has a full, developed and intelligent story that's as much about Peggy as it is beating up thugs.
All my doubts vanished immediately thanks in no small part to Atwell's acting, and it gives the show a good vibe as a character-driven series. It's making me wish next week would get here already.
As for the implications for the MCU as a whole, we're now introduced to Leviathan, which is apparently Communist HYDRA, and we're probably going to get a very detailed look at what Stark Industries was cooking up before Tony came along. Vanko's apparently a recurring character (he seems to be playing The Professor, though I wouldn't be surprised if this was the story of how he and Tony became estranged), and there's a lot more worldbuilding so far than AOS had at this point, which is interesting.
I kind of hope this series gets another season, but with a timeskip to after SHIELD is created - kind of a before/after sort of thing. Atm, this show takes place before the Agent Carter short - Peggy's still looked down upon by her bosses at the SSR, and SHIELD isn't any more than an idea - if that - at this point), though I think Stark asking Peggy to help him in the series is a prelude to see if she's up to helping him create SHIELD.

For the record: The Agent Carter thread.
Anyway, as for the AM trailer, I can't say it does much for me, but then I'm not really interested in that movie anyhow.
The "giant" insect thing, though, doesn't do my having an extreme dislike of bugs in general (don't know if I'd call it a full-blown phobia, even setting aside my loathing of self-diagnosis thanks to too many internutters* using some behavioral disorder as an excuse for being an asshole
) any favors.
Eh, the Ant Man trailer didn't really introduce anything new that the previous teaser clips haven't already, except for the ants.
Wish they played up more of the apparent humor.
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.Ant-Man, Ant-Man, does whatever an Ant-Man can...
Kind of iffy on the trailer- not sure if the humorous ending works well with the overall serious tone or not (leaning toward not).
Kind of getting an O Ld!Bruce Wayne (of Batman Beyond) vibe from the film's version of Hank.
"Hope" practices martial arts and shoots a gun, that's cool.
Edit, edit, edit, edit the wikiThey probably should have cut to some more upbeat music after the 'Huh'. That's the one area they could have done better. Otherwise nothing is wrong with the footage itself.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectYou think he'll turn Giant Man or will they save that for the sequel?

Is this a Jo Jo reference?Looks like they want to bring in some feels.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectWe already know Corey Stoll is Yellowjacket, and they're playing him as a villain.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectIt is possible that Lying Creator is going on, but yeah, it seems to be Stoll and it sounds like his Yellowjacket somewhat fits Pym's characterization in that persona (I remember Stoll talking about his character being complex and not easy to write off as evil)
Edit, edit, edit, edit the wikiThe teaser showed us two types of character dynamics we haven't seen in the MCU yet...Mentor/Mentee (well, I guess we get a glimpse of it with Yinsen) and father/daughter. I really look forward to that...though I wonder how anyone stirs an ant?
I dig Agent Carter. I mostly like how her blue dress and the red hat pops out against all the grey dressed guys. And how she pushes back whenever she can afford to, but is also not afraid to use the fact that everyone is underestimating her to her advantage.

So the old guy was Hank. Which one was Hope?
