Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I wonder what Scott Lang is going to be like. I mean I have little to no context for him as a person besides the episode he had in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest heroes where he came off well but there was not enough to give me much besides "Decently good human being".

His new comic series paints him as a huge loser who self-sabotages because succeeding is hard.

Well, I don't know how good the movie will be, but Marvel gets high marks for the marketing for sure. They really enjoy trolling us, don't they?

I just realized, after falling in love with Wong in the New Avengers comics I am somewhat anxious to find out how they're going to work with him in the films.

I imagine they'll try and do what they did with Pepper Potts to make her more workable for a modern audience.

I hope they find the right way to portray him and the right actor to play him.

And lets hope those two rights make a Wong.

[up] */slap

I do love Wong in the recent comics. He knows he's the stereotypical Asian sidekick and is pretty pissed at it, but dammit if he won't pull his own weight. Hopefully they can get that on screen without it coming across as overbearing (looking at you, Green Hornet).

Also really digging Cumberbatch having that spiritual zen side that he can tap into for the film. He might just be a better choice than expected.

That was interesting to read about and I hadn't known that about Cumberbatch before.

I don't feel that I deserved that.

Bocaj, considering the awfulness of that pun, it was a well earned slap.

Man, they are promoting Ant-Man in the best possible ways. I'm surprised, actually.

Ants cannot crush things. They are puny and insignificant. They can't also be men either. That's impractical

Teaser for Ant-Man was... interesting. I'd rather have a trailer, to be honest.

Okay, that last line was funny.

I get the feeling that the line "I need you to become the Ant-Man" probably won't be in the movie itself, and that the last line ("is it too late to change the name") will have a similar but different context.
