Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up][up]Wasn't that already linked?

I feel like people like to label characters as "snarky". Maybe that's just because I'm soured on the label due to certain other threads.

I hope this scene makes it into Avengers 2.

...

That's a dub right? Please don't tell me that was the actual audio. I mean, I know that show wasn't always great, writing wise, and that the 90's Marvel shows sometimes made really stupid voice decisions, but seriously?

Also, I love how her superhero outfit is more or less just a bathing suit. Not one with any special design or anything, either. Just the leotard, and that's it. Subtle. For a moment I thought Tony just got back from the pool and she was some girl who came back with him. Tony's face looks pretty ridiculous too, granted.

"Snarky white male hero beats bad guys (who have generic revenge and/or world domination plans) and gains emotional maturity in doing so"

Lol, I can count a few DC films that easily fall into this category.

I can name at least one, as well, and Green Lantern was utter crap.

"White male hero beats bad guys" could describe a heck of a lot more than just Marvel films.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

You've obviously never seen a 90s marvel cartoon if that seems outlandish to you

I was saying that's ridiculous even by 90's Marvel Animation standards.

Okay.

So, despite the "this clip is going to be in Age of Ultron" joke that's evidently been going around, that's Ultimo in that clip, right? Not actually Ultron?

Yeah, the graphic was posted earlier, but I don't think that anybody really cares about the Man-Thing.

Hey, I do. Don't dis Manny.

Now that I think about it, it would be interesting to do a Man-Thing movie in the MCU, especially since Doctor Strange is supposed to open it up to the mystical, which is what Man-Thing finds himself dealing with more often than not (and throw Howard the Duck in there, too. He's a friend of the Man-Thing's, and expanding on his presence in Got G couldn't hurt.)

It's a pipe dream, I know (especially since Marvel doesn't even own the film rights to him), but it's fun to think about.

Wasn't one of the AIM mooks from Iron Man 3 originally a Man-Thing villainess?

Man-Thing's treacherous wife, yes. Even sporting the scar she usually has after Man-Thing's creation.

Of all the 90s Marvel cartoons, the Iron Man one was the bottom of the barrel. X-Men and Spider-Man got slots in the Saturday morning blocks, and Fantastic Four came on after the normal block was over, but I never figured out what or when Iron Man was on.

I loved the Spider-Man and X-Men cartoons. I was only vaguely aware that Iron Man also had a show. I think I saw an ad for Avengers United They Stand once.

I liked how the Iron Man show used the same CGI to have Tony suit up no matter where he was.

Spider-Man was 90's marvel cartoon animation's finest hour. It is not any show that manages to be one of the finest adaptations of Spider-Man with A) An atrocious amount of censoring (i.e nobody could die) B) A filmsy budget.

Still the greatest Spidey adaptation.

Especially the one where they gathered several different Spider-Men, including one from our world.

Spidey meeting Stan Lee was sheer awesome for a kid.

Even despite how much it was handcuffed by the network, I did love it. I wonder how amazing it could have been had fox given it as much freedom as Batman animated had at the time.

I still say Spectacular Spider-Man was the best Spider-Man. But the nineties show holds a special place in my heart.
