Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Thanks,
The Celestials are at least vaguely humanoid in appearance, so that's a good of reason as any.
As for their role in the MCU I'd wager that aside from brief glimpses in recordings and the occasional body part, we won't see the Celestials in all of their glory until Phase 4. Got to have something big held back for a post-Infinity War MCU.
On the subject of the Manderin, I noticed that the MCU wiki has the Ten Rings listed as being present in the Ant Man movie, but I can't find any source for that beyond an IMDB listing of a single actor being credited in the movie as "Ten Rings", and we all know how unreliable IMDB can be for upcoming movies.
If they are present, they'll probably indirectly involved in the story. Perhaps they will serve as The Man Behind the Man for the antagonist of Ant-Man.

Bocaj: "Well I guess we'll see what happens now that he has the throne he wanted. My guess is that he'll fuck it up."
Given that the next film is called Thor Ragnarok, I believe these will be the actions of Loki.
-He will make an alliance with Surtur. -He (with help of his allies) will kill thousands of innocents.
And probably, Loki will be even worse in the Infinity War.
It turns out Yellowjacket is actually a British actor.
And then... it turns out that Doctor Strange was a member of the Ten Rings... but in reality... is a British actor!

And definitely both the audience and the writers will treat him as a poor soul to be pitied and redeemed.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."I don't think the movies ever actually skirt the fact that Loki has done terrible, terrible, terrible things. I mean, as of his "death" in The Dark World the best Thor can say about him is that he wishes Loki wasn't so friggin' evil and everyone else in his orbit still hates him.
Loki may be adored by the fans but there's no doubt that the writers are aware he's only to be pitied insofar as his irredeemable actions are motivated by a self-inflicted Inferiority Superiority Complex.
I like to think our options in this regard aren't Complete Monster and Draco in Leather Pants. Loki can be an actual person with motivations and feelings and still be loathable.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I think a lot of it comes from the fact that Tom Hiddleston is quite the fangirl magnet.
I "like" Loki because his character is well fleshed out, but he is still somewhat of a riddle. He is a character like Snape, someone who keeps you guessing about his real motivations. I also want to shake some sense into him so that he finally sees that his own actions lead to him loosing his family - and that he loves all of them, especially Thor. I also think that the sibling conflict is something easily relatable for everyone who has one, even if it is shown on a way larger skale.
It is noteworthy that in the first Thor movie, Loki was an anti-villain. But in The Avengers, he drops the "Anti" part.
In "The Avengers", Loki is a straight-up villain.
In "Thor the dark world", Loki is definitely A Lighter Shade of Black in comparison to the new Big Bad (Malekith), but taking into account that possibly he kill Odin, then he is still a very evil person.
I like to imagine Odin is just naked, tied up in a closet somewhere.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.I'd kind of like to think that too. Alternatively, my theory is that Loki turned into Frigga (Freudian issues ahoy!) and then killed Odin before he could react. Otherwise, I can't really see Loki winning in a fight against Odin.
I'm not familiar with the comics arcs that will likely inspire the next Thor movie, but I'd be surprised at Loki doing more evil stuff. My takeaway was that while definitely still evil, he was positively disposed toward Thor by the end of Dark World, instead seeing Odin as his real enemy (Loki still doesn't acknowledge his own culpability, but progress is progress). And since he's achieved his goal of ruling Asgard, I wouldn't expect him to do anything against Earth.
At this point, I'd expect him to keep ruling as Odin until he figures out a way to keep power as himself and/or gets caught and has to use his knowledge of Thanos to weasel out of execution. Whichever comes first.

Edit, edit, edit, edit the wikiI am not sure if ruling is really what Loki wants...I think what he always wanted the most is to proof that he is better than Thor, and to impress his parents. Which is why I also lean more towards Odin still being alive (unless AH is tired of his role...and even then he could simply be sleeping). You can't impress a dead man, and Loki has already lost his other options (through his own fault no less).
IIRC, Word of God is that Odin is dead- potentially due to the Doyleist reason you mention.
Edit, edit, edit, edit the wikiI want Loki to try to do good, but have completely fucked up ideas of what good is due to his deranged psyche, just to show how not-good he is. Like Inverted Carnage.

In fact I also have a theory, Loki got a very powerful ally (or allies), which is (or are) sufficiently powerful to defeat Odin. .
This new ally can be part of a Big Bad Duumvirate with Loki or can be his Dragon-in-Chief.
Probably is Surtur (although it is also possible Hela)
- Speaking of Malekith, something that disappointed me, was how weak he was this new villain.
- I believed that Malekith would be as powerful that, only the combined forces of Thor, Odin, Heimdall, Loki and Sif would be able to defeat him.

I'd love to see Surtur in the next movie. It'd be great to get a giant demon as the Big Bad. So far, all the main villains have been either human or have a human-like appearance. It'd be a nice change of pace.
Been too long since I've linked a Mr Sunday Movies / The Weekly Planet video:
- I've seen Nightcrawler, 'How do you train your dragon again?', and John Wick, and I will back that all of them were great-to-amazing.
- Godzilla: It wasn't boring, but it was double-crap. And no, that reviewer had it wrong, the monsters were (at times literally) background to the human characters, namely the one played by "Jonathan Taylor Thomas", whose character just sucked.
- Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes: agreed, except that the human characters were definitely better in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.
- GOTG: Nothing to add.
- Interstellar: interesting, though it went on fairly long, mainly in the buildup, and the wrap-up was too quick. I actually liked the "walking Tetris blocks" a lot. They were well acted and interesting. And funny in a smart way, not a "Jar Jar" way.
- Honorable mentions:
- DOFP, Chef: agreed.
- Edge Of Tomorrow: he didn't say anything, yet I feel there's nothing to add.
- The Lego Movie: fun, but kinda overrated. Not bad by any stretch.
- Hercules: I actually wanted to see that.
- Captain America The Winter Soldier: Completely agreed. You all know how I feel about this movie and how I want it to have my babies.

Mockingjay was one of the best blockbuster movies of the year in my opinion. Winter Soldier was also fantastic. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes was great, even if the characterization of the human characters was somewhat lacking. Guardians was okay. Interstellar was unimpressive.

There are a few cosmic characters where the resemblance to humans is a plot point. I know there's a character named Omega who was an alien but was genetically engineered to look like a human so he could more easily infiltrate Earth.
