Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

When I saw the redesigned costume the first thing that crossed my mind is that they are prepping the character for an MCU appearance (be it in the movies or TV shows), and they wanted to test the waters with a more practical costume that would look better on camera.
I'm not sure how the Spider-woman rights are connected to the Spider-man movie rights. If they are't connected then we could potentially see her in one of the Netflix series, and if that's the case then she could show up in the Civil War movie. if they are linked then it'll have to wait until Marvel strikes a deal to get creative control of Spider-man back. Marvel might also opt to wait until they strike a deal even if they don't technically have to just to avoid unnecessarily annoying Sony.

I don't think Spider-Woman is connected rights wise, as I believe the character is usually pretty separate from Peter. Because Jessica Jones (who is getting her own show) is an expy of Jessica Drew, both characters are good friends with Carol Danvers, who supposedly will be getting her own movie.
There is an aspect of Jessica Jones 's backstory in the comics about having a crush on Peter in high school, which probably would be mentioned if Sony and Marvel reached a deal, but doesn't need to be otherwise (and in any case, if Peter is ever introduced in the MCU, it will be a younger Peter who isn't a peer of Jessica Jones).

Okay, so there's probably nothing legally problematic about Marvel doing Spider-woman. Then it's just a question of whether or not Marvel would be willing to annoy Sony by putting a different spider-themed character into the MCU without striking a deal regarding Spider-man.
I didn't know about her friendship with Carol Danvers. If that's the case then maybe Spider-woman would be a good supporting character for the Captain Marvel movie, though I don't think there's any reason to wait that long to introduce her into the MCU if they are already testing the waters with her new costume.
You'll know when she does, because it will literally be the cutest thing you've ever fucking seen.
My various fanfics....Goddamnit.
Also, love the Spider-Woman redesign.

Interesting.
Well, I guess if they're not using Banner's supporting characters for an actual Hulk project they might as well use them elsewhere. And I'd peg Ross working with Stark as as good a reason as any to assume Banner isn't going to be on Tony's side in Civil War - beyond the obvious problems Banner would have with surrendering to government control in the first place, of course.
How many times are we going to keep answering this?
Alright, so, it's not going to be a 1:1 conversion of what happened in the comics becuase that would be really really dmb, it's more like it' going to be "based" on core ideas of the civil war transplanted so that they make sense within the context of the MCU.
Which probably means it's not going to be a giganto-war among 50+ superheroes.

So far we know that Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Panther are all confirmed for Civil War. Black Panther will be the one sitting on the fence rather then Spider-man (who will have a cameo at best, assuming Marvel gets the rights).
They might and probably will bring in additional heroes beyond those 3, but ultimately it is "Captain America: Civil War" not "Avengers: Civil War", which means it's probably not going to have a massive roster.
I'd be very surprised if Agent Carter, Captain Marvel, and Jessica Jones all tank. Agent Carter and Jessica Jones don't even have to do great, they just need to be about as successful as Agents of Shield and Daredevil respectively. Also Spider-woman can be introduced to the MCU without any immediate plans for a solo movie/show, and I think it'll be the reception she gets from that introduction that will answer the question of whether or not she gets a solo film rather then the performance of the other female-led projects.
Overall though, I'm not too worried. I firmly believe that Frozen and Mockingjay have proven beyond all doubt that not only can a female-led movie do well today, they can do spectacular.

I like the new Jessica costume, but I just realized why it looks familiar- It looks like the costumes worn by The Incredibles
