Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

That doesn't gel with the statements of Banner being involved in it. Also if that was the Vision i doubt they'd show it in the first trailer of all places.

He might come up with the idea.

Black Widow doesn't really look like Black widow, the face is a little bit too thin, and I don't like the Hulk...but Thor, Hawkeye aso look great. Especially Captain America.

I don't know how that doesn't look like Black Widow. Like at all.

[up]He's said similar stuff in the past about how the world doesn't necessarily like the Avengers. And of course unleashing a killer robot doesn't help matters.

@Wanderlustwarrior a few pages back. Yes, pretty much. Maybe Uncle Ben just wasn't around in this continuity. tongue

[up][up]I can just assume what you're responding to, but it'd be easier if you linked to the post in question.

Welcome to the Uncanny Valley, Thor. Enjoy your stay.
I can see how Black Widow looks furthest from her counterpart.
So Hawkeye gets special arrowhead holsters, and Hulk gets... special pants?

I don't think anyone else likes doing that.

It's not that I like doing it, I'd just rather be understood than have to wonder what the hell someone's talking about.

Man, that Thor one looks like they took Chris Hemsworth, shrunk him down, and had him stand perfectly still.

I'm saying it's really realistic looking, in other words.

I wonder how much articulation you get out of one inch.

The only part that needs to articulate is his wrist.

[up][up][up] He's actually already there but he's both shrunk down to the size of an ant and to scale with the others, so he's barely visible to the naked eye. It really is exceptional craftsmanship.

As long as they didn't beat him to the pimpslap.

[down]Aww, I wasn't even the first one on this page, but I'm getting some sense knocked into me?
But in all seriousness, domestic abuse is NOT funny. Never Live It Down is kinda humorous, but fine I'll stop.

Okay we're at the point where you have long since run the domestic abuse joke into the ground. It hasn't gotten any funnier since you tried the same lame gag a few pages back.

[up]That's because the poster in question doesn't try the same dumb joke every time the character is mentioned, to my knowledge.

Steven DeKnight talks a bit about Daredevil. He says it's the "exact opposite" of the Ben Affleck movie and then confirms that yes, Daredevil will eventually transition to the red suit.
