Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Dear Galactus, I really really really want this to happen. What do you think the odds are Sony will agree to this deal, and when would we the public find out if they did?

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.![]()
Honestly, given the dire financial straits that Sony's in and their Japanese HQ demanding they get right back in there and make a deal, it seems likely that they'll take it.
As for when we'd find out, I really hope it'll be a surprise. Like Sam Jackson in The Stinger of Iron Man, except for Age of Ultron or Ant-Man.
In fact, I recall a post on 4chan's /co/ board (yes, yes, I know) detailing how it could work. Namely, as The Stinger of Ant-Man, a group of high-schoolers go on a tour of a science lab (which another poster thought could be Pym Technologies, to tie it in to the film as a whole), a kid in the tour group gets bitten by a spider and drops his camera, and our POV zooms in on the camera to see it labelled as belonging to "Peter Parker".

What, so the kid getting bit by a spider wouldn't make it clear enough that it's Peter? Do we need to add some big bold letters at the end reading "THE SPIDER BITE GAVE HIM POWERS, AND NOW HE WILL BECOME SPIDER-MAN!"
I think a likely chance is Age of Ultron. Since we've had it confirmed we're getting an altered Avengers roster and there's a consistent rumor that The movie ends with Cap forming a new team of Avengers outright you could have a small cameo from Spider-Man that way.
It's good that the alleged Civil War cameo would be just that, a cameo, because rewriting scripts heavily this late in the game is never a good sign.
Once Sony accepts the deal, the higher-ups at Disney will do some Executive Meddling, such as choosing the new actor and making the Spider-Man reboot about Nick Fury putting him onto a team with other teenage heroes.
UPDATE: Upon further reflection, I can think of one upside to this scenario.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Marvel will then sabotage the film by making one of the kids Teen Tony.
Alternately
Marvel will use this terrible premise as an excuse to make a Runaways film.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Although I like Spider-Man, in an indirect way, my dislike of the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon/inclusion of that Spider-Man in MCU-related animated stuff has kind of soured me on the idea of seeing Spidey in the MCU (although I would think that Peter probably would be a relative peer of the rest of the cast and not a kid if he was included in the films).
Edit, edit, edit, edit the wikiMaybe Peter could've been bitten about ten years ago, but he always kept it a secret. Then he finds out about The Avengers and starts superheroing.
Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveIf they reboot either way, I would like a Peter Parker who is as young as possible. But honestly, there is no reason to rush his introduction...if they had planned to keep Garfield, then they would have had to hurry up a little bit, but since they won't either way, I am totally okay with waiting a little bit.

The funniest theory I've heard so far is that Star-Lord's father is Captain EO.

According to AMC it looks like they'll be sticking a little closer to the comics when it comes to the Vision's origin story in Age of Ultron. (can't post a link right now since I just set up my forum account, but it's on their youtube channel).
I had heard reports that Vision was also going to be created by Tony Stark in the MCU, and of the two options I perfer Ultron being the one to build him. Admittedly, I'm not terribly familiar with the comics, but I love the idea of Ultron betraying his creator only to in turn be betrayed by his own creation.
Ideally it won't be a case of the Vision being reprogrammed or just magically overcoming Ultron's programming. I'd love to see a situation where it's Ultron's programming of the Vision in itself that causes the shift. The idea I'm thinking of is that while Ultron believes exterminating humankind is the path to peace, while the Vision runs the same calculations and realizes that peace on a grander scale in the long run requires humanity's continued existence.

Mark Ruffalo actually indicated Banner creates Vision
or at least has a role in his creation.

Courtesy of that recent Sony hack, we now have some info on what Marvel Studios has planned for Spider-Man if they get him back anytime soon
.
