Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

What you described would probably be seen as a Friends with Benefits scenario by most. Unless the character or creator explicitly confirms this you can't really be 100% sure what they think.
They could say so! Explicitly! I mean, I understand it seems weird to folks because no one goes around talking about how straight they are, but a- spectrum stuff actually requires explanation for a lot of people due to, again, the extreme lack of exposure to the idea most people have. All you need is for one character to get confused about why your a- character is disinterested in sex/romance, and then have your a- character explain it to them. Easy.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. So explicitly state it! There! Problem solved!
I have no idea what the issue is here.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. Its weird that sex and hooking up are the only ways for a character to be interesting.
I would think that wouldn't be the case.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYou would think the fact that we're watching a show which embellishes all of this over people killing each other in exotic locations while struggling with familial, friendly, and adversary relationships and also occasionally being robots and superhumans would prove otherwise.
Huh.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I'm not trying to make an issue out of it. My logic is this:
Writers figure audiences will assume characters are vaguely Christian cisheterosexuals unless stated otherwise. 90+% of the time someone that doesn't fit this definition will draw attention to it in the work. Since May hasn't done so it's highly likely this applies to her and if it doesn't this should be made clear somehow.
Yeah—as mentioned, I'm expecting May to be alloromantic. I'm hoping she's not, but not expecting.
(Alloromantic is the opposite of aromantic, in case folks can't tell from context. I know I was thrown for a loop when I heard allosexual for the first time.)

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Okay....maybe an odd thing to be hang up about, but where does this coming from that Joss Whedon doesn't know what a Bi Character is? If I remember correctly Willow had a relationship with Oz, and then with Tara, and while she was with Tara there was an episode in which Oz came back and they had a talk in which she basically said that she really loved him, but he went away, and so they grew too much apart for her to give up Tara for him. Isn't that pretty much bi?
And concerning Ao S, what about Fitz oogling Mack while still being broken up about Simmons? What about the Simmons nearly salivating over Bobby? While there is nothing official in the show itself yet, they basically threw the doors wide open and said: Have fun, you can ship whoever you want with each other.

May mentioned that she was married in the past, and the way she worded it, it sounded like it was a guy.

Re: Willow: The show doesn't deny that Willow loved Oz at the time, but it does make it so that she's no longer attracted to boys at all going forwards. Not even Xander, whom she's crushed on in the past and is still around. And don't get me wrong, that can happen—sexuality is fluid, after all. But a lot of people felt it was a huge missed opertunity to have a bi lead character on television, and that Willow's switch didn't come from an understanding of sexuality so much as it did from a limited view of it.
Fitz and Simons may well be bi. It'd be nice for them to confirm that, though, otherwise they're just one-off jokes.

That article cites the Latino Review. When will people learn to stop doing that?

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Ken Watanabe
, Morgan Freeman, and Bill Nighy (??) are being looked at for the Ancient One.
I want to be angry they're considering Bill Nighy for a Tibetan role but I can't bring myself to do it! Bill Nighy is just too great!

I thought it said Martin Freeman at first.
But yeah, Morgan Freeman is...slightly less bad, but still bad.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I really don't want them to pick Morgan Freeman. I am so tired of him being the generic exposition man.
My various fanfics.Freeman's okay.
Bill Nighy made the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie watchable, and for that I am eternally in his debt. (He was one of the best parts of The World's End as well.)
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Or, you know, talking about their feelings. No characters ever do that, no way.
