Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

If it's the former, perfectly fine, as well as being nothing new. If it's the latter... then I think he's really underestimating the scope of the Infinity Gauntlet and the fact that it will threaten the entire universe, and that if keeping them separate from Infinity War is a goal, it might not have been a good idea to have one of the Guardians be Thanos's adopted daughter, or to have one of the Guardians turn their attention to Thanos at the end of the movie. Because that gives people the expectation that they're going to be involved in the upcoming conflict.
We've been over that quote before, and yeah: in context he seemed to be specifically talking about the plot of Guardians 2 setting up Infinity War'' (that is, that Guardians 2 will be about something new and different, and not be limited to being an Infinity War tie in).
Out of context it looks different than it does in context. At this point, it's safe to say he's not talking about the Guardians themselves being in or out of Infinity War the movie - which is still likely, given that that claim wouldn't even make much sense in that context. Infinity War is looking to explicitly be an intergalactic conflict.

There's nothing to say that they don't. In fact, when Thor and Malekith were warping around, the fact that Mjolnir started flying around to get back to him indicates that they must be physically connected in some way.
Ultimately, I think the "Nine Realms" are just nine particular planets that are somehow connected through... whatever Yggdrasil is.
No clue. We'd have to get a better look at how the map of the nine realms overlays the universe itself. I wouldn't put it past some of the nine realms being in the same galaxy as others (like Hogun's home and Asgard, or the dwarves' homeworld), but who knows if that applies to Earth or if Midgard is all by itself on its lonesome.

Why? Considering the Asgardians are ancient, and also explicitly not gods, it's entirely possible that their concept of the universe was made a long, long time ago, when the only thing they had to go off of was Yggdrasil's path because they probably didn't have the means to travel through space any other way.
Even in modern day, they probably still think that these nine planets must be special, especially if we assume that there's nothing else like Yggdrasil around. They may not be gods, but they are still a fairly proud people.

I initially figured the nine realms were more a map of the nine places of of greatest significance to Asgard: the homeworlds of beings most known to them. Their archenemies, the Jotun. Their close allies, the dwarves. The fallen race of elves. The land of the dead (who knows how Marvels going to spin that, if at all). Midgard, where the writers live. Etc.
Kind of like how some antique maps center the world on places most notable to their home culture and are kind of meh on everything else.
However, the way it's visualized in the movies makes a good case for them being extremely far removed from each other. Kinda makes you wonder how long Asgard's had the Bifrost - if everything is really that far away, that would mean Asgard has had Bifrost access for as long as they've had their mythology.
Because the writers need to remember the readers Reed actually have a super power besides "super smarts".
Really, though, stretching unnecessarily is just a thing he does. Every other panel he will be stretching seemingly at random.
About galaxies. In the comics there are, indeed, multiple galaxies besides Milk Way. The multiple race of Space Empires, such as the Kree and the Skrulls, each control multiple of them. Maybe MCU will fix this bit of silliness and remember a single Galaxy is enough for everything they might ever need.
They've toned the power level down quite a bit, they might do the same with the scale
Forever liveblogging the Avengers@9 realms: At first I thought they were alternate dimensions that were completely separate from one another and could only be reached through the Bifrost. Then Thor 2 came out. In that movie Thor's hammer acts like there's a longer way to get between Earth and Svartalfheim so evidently they are in the same universe. My guess is that the 9 realms are 9 planets(possibly in different galaxies) that are in the same universe but separated by distances that would make conventional travel impractical hence the use of the Bifrost. As for why they chose those 9 planets I'm not sure. If we assume Yggdrassil is some kind of galactic cluster those 9 planets may be arranged in such a way that makes them ideal travel points.
They have the Chitauri out there somewhere.
They may not be able to use the Skrulls or the Shi'ar due to association with FF and X-Men.
The Badoon should be good? (Maybe not. Their first appearance was in Silver Surfer)
The Spartoi as well, if they want to do anything with them.
Machine race Phalanx maybe (Appeared in an X-Men comic first. Wow, between the FF and X-Men they scoop up all the good aliens)

Forever liveblogging the AvengersReed randomly flexes his powerset for no reason all the time. It's pretty distracting.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
Personally, I think it might be that it makes him less of a dick when he does that, but don't quote me.
The Scarlet Witch will make a cameo appearance on Agents Of SHIELD, where she'll make Skye Quake like a Daisy by giving her a guilt Tripp.

Signatures are for lamers.

Why did Reed need to stretch his neck so much just to shrug?
