Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

If the conflict is government oversight of the heroes as the Russos have hinted, he could still have had a similar role I think. Not so much the revealing the identity part but the symbolic victory of someone who is seen as a freak weirdo counterculture figure by the mainstream agreeing to become one of Tony's government stooges.
Man, I'm imagining a whole room of special effects artists going "How does Spidey shot web?"
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectAdding Spidey in just feels lazy.
That they considered it worries me that it's basically going to be a Captain America movie In Name Only.
Spidey does fulfill a more "everyman hero who is effected by the events of Civil War" niche, which was why his story in Civil War was (imo) one of the more interesting. He's not a secret agent, or a billionaire with government clout who wants to put the world on his shoulders, or even a man cursed with ungodly power like Banner - he's just some goodhearted kid (well, not so much a kid anymore, but the effect is similar) who goes out superheroing because he feels its his responsibility to do so.
Presumably, Marvel could introduce another character to fit that role either during or (ideally) before the movie comes out - Scott Lang could probably do it, for example.

I'm just worried about how much screentime he, Iron Man and Black Panther (and anyone else, including holdovers from Avengers 2) would have to be established and act in. Plus, the Russos said it was basically going to be Avengers 2.5, or was that that Winter Soldier was Avengers 1.5?

The statement you're thinking of was something Anthony Mackie said in regards to the Winter Soldier.

Yeah, Winter Soldier is where the whole universe got turned on its head.

Oh God! Natural light!

So according to the massive leak at Sony last week
, Sony and Marvel did meet about co-producing the next few Spider-Man films and Marvel tried to get Spider-Man included in Captain America: Civil War, but talks apparently broke down.
