Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah, I know it is an obvious bit of "realism".
One other consideration I had though is that it would make him scarier if besides the Red Right Hand he really didn't look different than a normal person, which would also make it harder for his victims to realize he was controlling them.
Edit, edit, edit, edit the wiki
I suppose that would work if he started out like that, then turned purple later on.
Maybe he was sprayed by a skunk and told the cure for the odor was bathing in grape juice.

I don't see what's wrong with him just being purple.
What they really need to work on is his development. He was a spy, then he got dosed in chemicals, then he discovered he could control the minds of people. Rather than use this power to live as a king without openly doing anything illegal, he immediately decided to crime.
Purple Man is the type of character that necessarily must be written stupidly, because if he was written intelligently, he could live out the rest of his days without ever crossing a law officer or superhero's path.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yeah, I don't see why someone having purple skin is suddenly crossing some line of disbelief. Hulk has green skin.
As for him being "written stupidly", well, sometimes it's just that the character himself is stupid. Chalk it up to human error. These guys don't have the hindsight we do.

The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again. It doesn't take much hindsight to be able to control minds so completely you can basically live invisibly and without disrupting the world order in a manner in which you'll be noticed. You would have to be megamaniacal and arrogant and want far too much out of life to screw up having the Purple Man's powerset.
The issue is that he has to do something to draw the attention of heroes in order to be interesting.
The Blog The Art
You could make him smart, if sadistic. It wouldn't be implausible for him to screw up once, which gets, say, Coulson's team on his trail (they probably wouldn't be involved, but I guess we'll see).
It depends on how he is written but Purple Man is usually depicted as someone whose desire to cause mayhem simply outweighs the Cut Lex Luthor a Check aspect. He could use his abilities to become legitimately wealthy or powerful but he simply prefers to use them to kill, torture, and rape people because he's a sick fuck who finds stuff like that amusing.

That's a thing comics these days love exploring. After a while many writers realized the Cut Lex Luthor a Check made plots make a seriously small amount of sense, so they ended up noticing the obvious: Comic book villains are mentally unhealthy people.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Eh, I'm more partial towards Thanos: The Hand of Fate myself.

if there are multiple books/issues they can be named multiple things
Thanos and the Infinite Sadness (He causes for everyone else)
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThey'd have to explain how he's alive to thsoe who don't watch Ao S, which could get kinda awkward. Additionally, New-SHIELD is pretty underground so they probably wouldn't jump right into a conflict the whole world will see.
What I'd like to see is Loki crossing paths with Thanos and desperately trying to make up excuses as to why he lost the scepter while stuttering in terror.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."

Aw, but that's boorrring...
Oh God! Natural light!
