Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Ao S?
With the reveal from the most recent AOS episode, anyone else think Baron Von Strucker made himself young with the same technique Daniel Whitehall did? It would certainly explain why he acts like he walked out of the 40s in spite of being in the modern day. And it would make Captain America: Super Soldier canon again.

Can I just say that I'm really enjoying Kyle MacLachlan on Agents of SHIELD?
Actually, Reed Diamond too, for that matter, but he doesn't get lines like:
"He has no idea of its true power. Of what's inside. Oh! There's something inside."
"What are talking about? Tesseract-level power?"
"Sure. ...I don't know what that is."

I usually detest the Buffy Speak on the show but he makes it work so well.
Kyle is fantastic, but for me it's incredibly jarring to see him in a such a dead serious role coming off from Portlandia. I guess they're trying to do some kind of Walter White Breaking Bad-esque thing with his comedic over the top hamminess going for sociopathy, but I half expect Carrie and Fred to pop up behind him
For Reference:
Also, I will stand my ground and say that Agents is hands down the best series to marathon over a weekend. It has literally gone from being one of my most eye rolling shows to one that I eagerly anticipate the next week. Then again it is from Whedon.

That's not really a great comparison. Bryan Cranston was known primarily for his work in comedy, and most recognizable from Malcolm in the Middle. Breaking Bad was a huge departure for him.
Kyle Mac Lachlan has a huge resume of notable roles, in a pretty diverse range (notable projects include Desperate Housewives, Sex and the City, and How I Met Your Mother), but he's probably most known for his work with David Lynch, having appeared in Dune, Blue Velvet and above all, Twin Peaks. SHIELD isn't ohmygodsodifferent for him.
Remember, just because you associate an actor with a specific role doesn't mean that that's what most people are going to be familiar with.
Plus, one of his most recent roles before Ao S was in the short-lived Believe, where he played a well-meaning bad guy doing stuff FOR SCIENCE!
hey, I'm not trying to put the actor down or anything here. If anything, I'm revelling in how awesome he is by playing all of these different parts so convincingly.
I just find it slightly strange that he's playing such a polar opposite character.
(Besides, if we're including BC in depth here, then he did get his first real acting jobs in serious works like Dead Space and The Rockford Files (albeit small parts) as well as his terrifying portrayal in X Files. So no, I'm not putting him down or anything)

Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction. My main point of reference for Kyle MacLachlan is Twin Peaks, so much so that I didn't realize he was Skye* 's dad at first. It's tough for me to read credits when there's action on the screen. Same reason I can't do subtitles.
He comes off to me as a weird cross between Ed Norton's Hulk and Samuel Sterns from that same movie.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
