Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I kind of expected that he'd show up in Infinity War, and it was a given that he would do the same in Thor: Ragnarok. Anyway, I'm fine with it.
Oh God! Natural light!I like Loki. He's the only villain so far with a personality that goes much beyond "bad guy" (HYDRA was a great villain in The Winter Soldier, but the story's strength came from the villain being an organization, not just an individual with a grudge as most of Marvel's other villains have been; Pierce wasn't hugely compelling in and of himself), and I'm interested to see where his story goes.
I'll be very happy to see more of the Russo brothers' directing; of the directors Marvel has used so far, they'd be my picks for Infinity Wars. I think I'd even prefer them over Joss; there's a bit more tension in Winter Soldier, a bit more sense of real stakes. Joss' movies are so infused with humour that the tension doesn't really have time to build.

Why are comic fans so jaded about everything? Batman fans get the same way about the Joker and it's just a major bummer.
Loki should be involved in these stories. Like the article points out, he was promised that there would be consequences for failing Thanos. So when Thanos shows up, he should face those consequences.
The idea that "he's popular and pretty and therefore I hate him" just makes me want to drive my head through a wall because of how shortsighted it is.
I noticed that you made the same statement about the Joker in the Arkham Knight thread.
Regardless, I agree. I don't think a character being popular is a good reason to hate them. There's a story to tell with Loki. Now, if you don't like that story for other reasons, that's fine, but Loki's presence does not preclude the presence of other villains.
Oh God! Natural light!I posted this over in the Guardians thread.
Figured, I'd put it here too.
This isn't like Arkham Origins where the villain is being thrown in as big bad for a plot that didn't appear to be about them at all: like it or not, Loki is already a character in Thanos plot - I'm a bit surprised he isn't getting killed off in Thor 3 (and actually pleased, as I like the idea that he could always be something present to influence Thor), but given that he isn't there's little reason not to include him in Infinity War. They could have all of his connections be settled offscreen, yeah, or do it in Thor 3 without actually including Thanos, but why bother going out of the story's way to cut him out?
The fact that the movie didn't end with that fills me with surprise sadness.

He's only been in three movies. Are you tired of Tony Stark? What about Steve Rogers?
Personally, I'm not sick of Loki, though I do wish they had toned his role in the Dark World down a bit and put some more focus on the actual villain. Him being in Thor 3 and Infinity War was basically inevitable.
If there's anyone I'm honestly sick of seeing pop up everywhere? It's Peggy Carter. I don't hate her by any means, but I don't really get why she's so popular/getting cameos in so many things, and it's getting a little annoying.
To be precise, the Thor movies are about Thor and Loki's relationship. What makes Loki interesting isn't Loki, it's how he relates to Thor - that's what the bulk of his scenes are about. Thor 2, especially, had little of Loki that wasn't in some way Thor related or designed to make Thor feel stuff or react in a certain way, etc - at least in comparison to the first movie, where Loki got a character arc.
What makes Loki feel overexposed in Thor 2 isn't that he had a major role, it's that the writers failed at balancing the brotherly drama in a situation where the brotherly drama wasn't the thing that was actually supposed to be controlling the movie.

To my knowledge, Peggy's had cameos in Winter Soldier and a single episode of Agents of SHIELD. Yeah she's getting her own series but it hasn't even aired yet. How could she possibly be overexposed already?
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I don't know, I just... don't see what's so special about her, I guess.
I mean, I know female representation is an issue, and that Scarlett Johansson's pregnancy/availability probably limits what they can do with Black Widow. But I don't know. I just don't find Peggy all that interesting. She's badass, yeah, but that's all I really get from her aside from "Cap's love interest". She doesn't catch my attention as a character.

Why not a Loki movie?
Is this a Jo Jo reference?
