Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up][up]He was the dude in Hot Fuzz!?

....

....

And I thought a Doctor Who special was beneath an ex-Bond. I guess this guy just fits right in with genre stuff alongside Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian Mckellen.

Naturally people are bad at predicting things. After all they also thought that Interstellar would win the box office on opening weekend. Because, you know, there is no way that the Disney movie which follows their biggest hit ever and is based on a Marvel property on top of it might win this one.

I wonder about Ao S. It really does look like they are setting up the whole inhuman mythology, but they certainly can't set up everything because you have to be able to watch the movie independent from the show.

@Mukora, That creature from Ferngully and of course Dr. Frank-N-Furter from the infamous Rocky Horror Picture Show. And the Sorcerer from Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja.

What? I know my Curry occasionally.

@Wack'd. I dunno man, with that face... Nigel's gotta be up to something.

I know. I was merely providing examples of evil Curry.

Because Tims are evil.

And Taurus Bulba was an evil Tim Curry too.

Extended AOU trailer.

BTW Agents of SHIELD strongly hinted at Attilan last night.

So something big happens at a snow fort. Something with a lot of soldiers. Not really sure what human soldiers would want to work for Ultron.

[up][up]Well, I think I remember hearing that the movie actually opens with them busting up a HYDRA cell. Maybe it's that?

Maybe, but the initial preview saying that made it sound like it was just the first few minutes of the movie. This part looks way longer. Maybe the scene is bigger than I expected.

Immediate thoughts:

  • Hey, there's a good look at Claudia Kim finally!

  • The Mind Gem.

  • Better look at Black Widow's TRON outfit.

  • Iron Man getting to do something outside the Hulkbuster.

  • Some Samsung Product Placement.

You can work around the data plan by using the free wifi at a place that has it. Nearly all of the Mcdonalds have free wifi and most of the Burger Kings among other places like Lowes Hardware for some reason.
