Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Joaquin Phoenix was the front runner for a long while and only balked at the last minute. It's possible he was in negotiations at the same time Chadwick Boseman was, but it just fell apart.
The way I heard it, it was because he's never done a big-budget, effects-heavy film before. He didn't want to sign on for six or whatever before he'd even done one, because he didn't even know if it was something he could do.
Kind of the opposite of Robert Redford in The Winter Soldier, who said in interviews that the reason he did the movie was because he wasn't familiar with acting in an effects-heavy movie and wanted to experience it.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what to read from the 08 Guardians characters printing? Currently re reading Infinity War and would love to follow it up with one of theirs.
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction. The 2008 run is being reprinted in a two volume "Complete Collection". The first volume should be out already. After you read that, The Thanos Imperative (the Grand Finale for the 2008 Guardians) is available as a separate volume.
Just don't read anything written by Brian Michael Bendis, whatever you do. This applies to literally anything the man has written outside of Ultimate Spider-Man. It's all garbage, because he doesn't like playing with other kid's toys, so he makes up his own rules.
My various fanfics.Meh. Personally, I think Bendis's Avengers and X-Men titles are spectacular. His Guardians less so, but still entertaining.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.His X-Men books are pretty good imho (well, up to Battle of the Atom at least, haven't read any further).
Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveHis work on X-Men is alright, Ultimate Spider-Man is good from what I've read but his Guardians of the Galaxy is trash. He works great when he can create new casts of characters but he sucks at using others characters if they don't fit his style.
He also wrote Disassembled and House of M which should speak for itself.
Also, his explanation for Drax, Quill and Thanos being back in the 616 universe makes no sense.
I wouldn't call him an awful writer but his quality is too inconsistent for my tastes. Give me Fraction, Gillen or Deconnick any day.

Bendis's run on Guardians has been entertaining for me, but I qualify that with the statement that I have no frame of reference; the much-beloved 2008 run began shortly before I got out of comics for a time and ended before I came back - I left around Secret Invasion and returned around Fear Itself - while earlier runs predate my comic-reading history, and I generally don't read older comics because I've tried reading older comics and found them largely unreadable - comic writers have steadily been improving on their overexpository dialogue, but it's still a problem even today.
I read bits of the 2008 run before I left, and I particularly liked most elements that did not have anything to do with Adam Warlock, so I can see how Bendis's run is a bit of a let-down in comparison. It's still not bad by any means.

Apparently they are still in negotiations. Plus, if I remember correctly, the shooting schedule for Sherlock ensures that he will be busy next year. While Sherlock is not so time consuming that it can't be combined with anything else, it might be a spanner in the works nevertheless.
