Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The thing is that they had the perfect way to get rid of the support without magic. Stark Industries is investigated by the government and there assets are frozen or something like that. Just say that this is still going on.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadIn retrospect that is a problem whose creation is entirely their fault for making Spider-Man Iron Man's toady simply due to the latter's Wolverine Publicity
Hell in the original Civil War while Spider-Man did start out working for Iron Man he eventually turned against him and joined Cap's side which doesn't happen in the film, staying completely loyal to Tony all the way

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Come to think of it, could Spidey's supporting cast show up in other MCU projects? Ned had a cameo in Infinity War so it should be ok, but I cant find any instance where he or MJ would fit (are there any Boston-based Marvel heroes?). JJJ on the other hand could be a good narrator for the MCU, discussing the events of NYC (and abroad when those stories break). He would have been perfect for Falcon and Winter Soldier, and to lesser extent, Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel (though he would have been shoehorned in as that last episode had a LOT going on). Heck, give JJJ his own Disney+ series (maybe go into more depths into his opinions on superheroes and his personal life).
It seemed pretty clear to me that the intent behind the No Way Home retcon was to create the blankest possible slate for future Spider-Man projects.
Especially if Sony decides to take their toys and go home. They could now make their own Spider-Man movies, still with Tom Holland as Peter Parker, and act like it's the same character as in the MCU. They wouldn't be able to directly reference the MCU, but by erasing Peter's entire history with that world, that's no longer necessary.
...
Though, that does get my mind going down an odd track: Who owns the rights to the MCU's MJ? The comic book character, Mary Jane Watson, is owned by Marvel Comics, while the film rights are held by Sony. However, the MJ in the films is not Mary Jane; her name is Michelle Jones, and she's an original character created for the movies. So does she belong to Sony or to Marvel Studios?

In the comics I believe Riri Williams/Ironheart builds her Armour at MIT? Could be wrong.
Be hilarious to have Ned involved and be like 'Sure I'll help I've hacked supersuits before' Riri: "Really When?" Ned: "I don't know."
MCU Ironheart is set to appear in Wakanda though. So who knows.
Yeah, I'm a little worried about that. I think that was her in the trailer in the lab with Shuri. I hope the angle they're going for isn't, "Riri Williams is a Wakandan scientist who worked for Shuri."
IIRC In the comics, Riri's a teenage girl who builds an Iron Man suit in her parents' garage from a box of scraps after someone leaked the schematics on 4chan.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Sony is really attached to the concept of Spider-Man as this brooding, woe-is-me loner who struggles to form any solid relationships and constantly has to sacrifice those relationships to do the right thing.
The sad irony of it though is that his wide and rotating supporting cast is a big part of what makes Spidey interesting. His friends, his Allie’s, and their stories have always been major aspects of Spidey stories, and yes there’s that misfortune - but it isn’t just bad things happening to him, but a big aspect is how those misfortunes trickle through his circle and affect everyone around him, and in turn how those people affect Peter.
There’s only really been two adaptations since the Raimi movies that actually remembered this and made a point of ensuring that as a major part of the way the character is depicted: Spectacular, it being one of the many reasons that’s the best Spidey adaptation of all time, and Homecoming + FFH, which is why it’s so annoying that NWH jettisoned the whole thing. By getting rid of everything but the misfortunes in Peter’s life, they threw out the baby with the bath water, missed the point and basically took out what made this version of the character interesting.
It’s comparable to Fox being unwilling to do anything with the X-Men that isn’t Magento or DC being joined to the hip with the idea of Superman as a Messianic Archetype. The end of No Way Home is the ultimate end result of how Sony has always treated him: now he’s a wretch whose loneliness is magically enforced and who was forced to give up literally everything and everyone to be a hero.
I may be misremembering. I remember the Iron Man schematics being leaked online was a thing at one point. I thought that was connected to Riri.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Armor Wars is pretty interesting. Way back in Iron Man 2 it was a plot point that no one was going to be able to duplicate Stark's tech for like 5-10 years.
It's been way more than that in-universe. There should be knock off powered armour galore to set up Armor Wars but we've not really seen any yet.
It's funny that the various young tech geniuses of the MCU are being farmed off all over the place: Bruno Carelli to CalTech, Ned Leeds to MIT, Peter Parker to nowhere, Riri Williams to Wakanda. If they all met up they could form a singularity of genius that would either destroy the world or turn it into a utopia.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I remember it being weirdly controversial that Peter actually talked to people normally in the first Amazing Spider-Man movie. Like, some people were dead set on Peter Parker being a 60s stereotype of a nerd with no friends. Same thing with his skateboard in that movie. "Only cool people ride skateboards, Peter can't have one!"
It got taken to the other extreme at times in the Amazing movies. Like how the second one features Peter crashing graduation and making out with the valedictorian in front of the whole school. Peter can have friends and loved ones, but he shouldn’t be the most popular guy around.

Does crashing graduation and making out with the valedictorian make you popular outside of movies?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWho's going to stop him?
If I had to do armchair psychoanalysis of Peter's behavior, it's that of someone who is starved for positive attention and unable to have normal relationships.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"When people say "Spider-Man should be a loner", they never mean the normal human characters, they mean the Superheroes shouldn't be there.
Same with Batman, whenever that argument comes up they're specifically referring to Robin and the Justice League, not Alfred and Commissioner Gordon.
Like, even the Punisher talks to people sometimes, that's not that crazy to believe that wanting someone to be a solo player doesn't mean they want all their friends to vanish.
Spider-Man is also one of the most crossingoverish guys in Marvel and the MCU pins a lot of its appeal on the potential of it happening.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

Maybe they should’ve gone with a less magical route of getting Spidey away from Stark.
Happy: “Peter, why does our bank account say yesterday Stark Industries donated 5 billion to abolitionist bookstores??”
Peter: “…I might’ve left the Stark credit card lying around when I went to visit MJ.” *gets shown the door*
