Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Fun fact: The Colonel Jupiter thing did happen in the comics... veeeeery briefly. It was basically a one-shot story long before the whole Man-Wolf thing, ending with John being cured of the Jupiter spores mid-fight. Then those powers went away and never came up again. Ever.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The weirdest thing about Spider-Man Unlimited is that I could swear that, at the time, they actually advertised it as a sequel show to Spider-Man: The Animated Series when it was nothing of the sort.
Spectacular with the deep cuts as usual.

I don't think Unlimited was officially a sequel, but it did have the Spider-Man: The Animated Series musical theme in the opening episode when Peter put on his costume.
MJ was in that first episode, but it was open ended enough that you could assume Peter did manage to find her after the end of TAS.
Yeah, I also heard Colnel Jupiter was actually a thing from the comics. You can always count on someone digging up super obscure shit and making it fun.
You hear that Disney? Spectacular was fun. Maybe you should be showing it instead of trying to re-invent the wheel.
One Strip! One Strip!Oh yeah. That was some good shit.

As I understand it, Sony gave up the animation rights to keep the film rights.
That's why the show got cancelled and we got Ultimate.
One Strip! One Strip!Apparently Dan Slott also thought that Unlimited was a sequel to TAS, since Spider-Verse portays them as the same universe.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonYa know the ending of Thor L&T and Spider-Man No Way Home has got me thinking when we'll get heroes whose status quo's are kinda sad.
Like say homeless heroes, cause there is a large portion of Marvel characters who live very unfortunate lives. The heroic symbiote users are actually a pretty good example of this, Eddie Brock, Flash Thompson, and Andi Benton have all spent large portions of careers basically homeless with no stability and very little of a support system like friends or family.
Worsened by factors like Eddie having to take care of a son and his inability to do so since he can barely take care of himself, Flash falling off the wagon and descending into severe alcoholism, and Andi a young woman no older than Kamala stuck in New York all alone and having to sleep under bridges or woman shelters.
Just generally the opposite of say Ms. Marvel where Kamala has a home full of a supporting family and friends or Thor L&T where Thor has cutesy sugary sweet scenes with Love as they engage in fun father and daughter adventures.
It make for an interesting tonal contrast to have a superhero who have very little next to nothing and really struggle as a result.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That is what gave me the thought. Peter is currently on that line though luckily he's not homeless since he's snagged himself an apartment building.
I wonder if we'll get more heroes with similar shite living conditions.
On further thought Ghost Rider is also typically homeless, tending to be the wanderer guys who rides across the country sleeping in whatever inns or bathrooms they can find.
I think cosmic heroes also tend to lack any housing as well. Unlike the Guardians who have a ship, guys like Nova and Quasar due to being able to fly under their own power don't have really have a base.
Actually now that I think about it, I wonder how Carol lives in her day to day life.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It actually makes sense that Venom Peter is one of the strongest Venoms. He's already superpowered, with the Symbiote upgrading said powers even further.
Eddie Brock, the most frequent Venom host otoh, is just a regular human being.
The Web of Shadows game shows how dangerous Peter can really be if he chooses to embrace the power the Symbiote offers in its Evil path.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThere's a funny bit in Venom: The End (The End is a series of one-shot detailing a possible final ending for the character), the symbiote outliving Eddie as over the course of 2 trillion years evolved into a Godlike lifeform, infinitely adapting and power-copying to bond with every life living thing in the universe that has ever lived. The latter it did by copying the time travel powers of some Mutants and it has effectively gained the superpower of well everyone including the Omega level Mutants.
It also developed a rating system of combability for its hosts, 5 stars of which every host has been rated 4 stars even its abusive first-host Tel-Kar gaining 4 stars.
There are only 2 people in all of the history of the universe its given different stars. The only 5 star is Eddie himself, the symbiote still dearly missing and pining after him after all this time even after untold eons.
The only 1 star, Peter Parker. The only host in all history to gain a 1 star for combability. Again even Tel-Kar got 4 stars and the symbiote hates Tel cause he was an abusive dick.
So in that case the symbiote loves Eddie above all else, being its one true love while it considers Parker the worst host of all time.
I think it's a Depending on the Writer thing. How much the symbiote appreciates its present host vs. pining for Peter depends on who the story's about. Venom's whole villainous motive is being Peter's jealous ex-bondmate. As a villain, it literally would not be here destroying Peter's life if it didn't want him to take it back. That is the sole reason these two characters ever interact confrontationally.
But when Venom's being an antihero, it doesn't need that element so much. It can have it, to be sure. Can make for some rich drama; We saw that in the Agent Venom series. But if the story isn't about Peter, then it doesn't really need to be about Peter.

Maybe it was just an excuse to have Jonah have more scenes / do more stuff in the movie. In addition to getting laughs from the audience ranting about Spider-Man, he's also getting laughs from the audience ranting about money for the wedding.
Which amusingly makes John himself something of a prop. Dude could've been a stepladder for all it mattered, as long as that stepladder was (somehow) JJJ's son.
