Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Oh god I forgot about Doom's vulture and tiger
.
I think the ideal Doom would be somebody who's able to fully play into all the classic villain tropes while being able to get people to take them seriously at the same time. He should commit to things like ranting about how great he is in the third person from his evil castle and not have it played as a joke.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonOh yeah, Doom absolutely needs to play up established comic book villain tropes as much as possible with maximum grandiosity, while also being terrifyingly, ruthlessly competent. He may go on lengthy heavy-handed monologues and have a ridiculously over-the-top Uberwaldian aesthetic, but when he makes a move, it's with a purpose and he's already three steps ahead of you.
RE: VFX Woes:
Jesus, it bites that that's happening to them. Like, why won't someone do something about it already?
RE: Destin Daniel Cretton directing TKD: Wasn't expecting them to announce the director for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty so soon.
But if the plan is to have different directors this time, who'd take on Avengers: Secret Wars? (*manifests Sam Raimi*)
I'd like it to be Dave Filoni.
Or seeing as though he's being introduced in Quantumania, maybe Peyton Reed? He did do well on his two episodes in The Mandalorian.

I forgot how much fun Doom was in those animated shows. Can the MCU even handle that level of bombast?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I love Doom’s mellifluous voice in the video clips.
I have tended to imagine him as having a harsh and grating voice (or sounding like Darth Vader) and being completely cold and humorless.
But I actually think it might be a better fit to have him come off as charming in that way. I’m thinking both of The Phantom of the Opera as a comparator, as well as the fact that Doom is at least partly the Prince Charmless trope.
I also similarly like that this version of Doom has at least a bit of a sense of humor. Not a kind sense of humor. But a sense of humor.
Edit - I also find it funny that in the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon, Quentin Beck’s Mysterio persona is basically him roleplaying as Doom - a hammy, Wicked Cultured cartoon character.

What I want from MCU Doom is kind of what I want from MCU MODOK — a hammy Card-Carrying Villain who goes all in on the classic villain tropes...and is no less a genuine threat for it.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI would like a subversion of the obligatory "Makes fun of character name" thats prevalent in like every movie.
The heroes make fun of Doom's name, and he proceeds to utterly hand them their ass like children.
"You were saying more? Please continue, Doom would like to hear the rest of it?"

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'm of the opposite opinion. I actually liked it when Strange mocked Black Bolt's name in Multiverse of Madness, since it lines up a lot from when Wolverine called Professor X "Wheels" in the first X-Men movie. I dunno, maybe I just don't care too much for the Seen It All trope, I like it when characters openly lampshade the crazy shit happening in this universe.
I'll admit I was really disappointed when nobody seemed to care that Rocket is a talking raccoon and freak out at the prospect. Because that's what I would've done. I'm basically Jack Burton from Big Trouble in Little China.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Honestly, superhero parody is getting old at this point. It feels like there are just as many parodies of superhero movies as there are actual superhero movies. There's no reason to go meta with superhero parody jokes in the MCU, with the exception of Deadpool and apparently, She-Hulk.

I was actually thinking more of when they made fun of Spider-Man's name at the beginning.
Especially when they did the cliché "Does he lays eggs" joke. That joke is fucking tired man. Its always the same shit, its like people can't comprehend the very idea of Spider-Man.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Okay, I'll admit making fun of Spider-Man is stupid because literally everyone knows who he is at this point.
But mocking the likes of Reed Richards and Black Bolt is perfectly okay in my book. In fact, I kinda wish that there was at least one scene in WandaVision where someone lampshaded how weird it was for a woman to fall in love and try to conceive children with a robot.
Like, yes their relationship is genuinely sweet and wholesome, and from their perspective it's a great moment. But c'mon. There's gotta be at least one person who finds that weird. Maybe Yondu would be okay with it, but I certainly don't want to date a robot.
EDIT: Also, I'm of the opinion that Doom's name needs to be mocked. It didn't happen in the last two film series, and I think it's kinda important. I mean...his name is DOOM!

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Actually now that I think about, the whole forced parody bits did enter my mind during Thor Love and Thunder
Like Jane has a whole running gag where she's trying to come up with a catchphrase cause she's a hero now and everyone's like "Oh yeah you definitely need a catchphrase, thats superhero 101"
Since when, who here has catchphrase? Thor doesn't have a catchphrase I don't remember him shouting "Its hammer time" in previous films. The only character who kinda has one is Steve's "I can do this all day" but I can't think of anyone else who has a catchphrase.
It comes across as trying to parody something that doesn't really exist in the MCU. Its like if everyone started talking about utility belts despite Batman being the only character who has a utility belt so its not some piece of ubiquitous superhero culture.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Count me in as another who's tired of the "haha, your name is stupid/you look stupid" jokes.
You know which recent movies I really enjoyed that never do this kind of jokes? Both of the live action Sonic the Hedgehog films. Everything in these movies are completekridiculous, but no character ever makes the winking-at-the-audience "haha, this is so dumb right" quips. They are incredibly earnest and sincere in their premise, and that's so refreshing to me.

Every day he trains the tiger to hunt squirrels, because he knows the day is coming.
