Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I still suspect they changed her powers as some kind of way to link her more closely to Carol and Monica. That's the explanation that makes the most sense to me, even if I still don't like it.
Over in the Ms. Marvel TV thread, someone brought up a quote from Kamala's creator, G. Willow Wilson, with regards to her powers. Basically, Kamala was designed as an extremely comic-booky character with extremely comic booky powers and she had no idea how it would be possible for a live-action film to depict her powerset well. Kamala's own creator thinks her powers are unadaptable.
I wouldn't be surprised if the people helming the show concurred. We've had three Fantastic Four movies to try and get this right, and what those have shown is that rubber-man powers always, always look like absolute trash in live-action.
So I'm not surprised that they're changing things up. I am, however, surprised that her new powers are being Quasar, specifically.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Going back to the actor-character morality subject: I wasn't trying to imply that an actor's commitment to a role is more important to their actual lives. Of course, one's personal life is more important than whatever their best role is.
I was just thinking about beloved Samuel L. Jackson's portrayal of Nick Fury is, how long he's played and is continuing to play the character, and how the character would inevitably be retired.
Because it is inevitable that we all die someday.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Indont think Sam Jack wants Nick Fury to ever be retired though. I think he would happily play the character until he dies.
I can't see them writing out Nick in a way that Sam wouldn't regret shortly after.
Sam loves this role so much he used to turn up in costume as Nick Fury to marvel films he's not even scripted to appear in to try and blag some footage.
He's basically half written out already in a way he can appear whenever necessary but his absence won't really raise eyebrows. Faked his death and moved to space.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah, I get that. It's just...for a character like Nick Fury, I'd kinda like a low-key version of Tony Stark's funeral scene, given how important a player he is to this universe. I think killing him offscreen and a few people acknowledging it afterwards would be kind of an Undignified Death in my opinion.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."I like both the character and Samuel L Jackson, but I don't know if I'd say he's an important player in the MCU anymore. Once SHIELD fell in Winter Soldier he just kind of occasionally pops up randomly. His only big appearance since then is Capt Marvel, which was a prequel.
You and I remember Budapest very differentlySo, here's some fun trivia related to a plot point from Eternals: Ikaris flies into the sun, as we know. However, the Sun is 92.483 million miles from Earth and he can't fly that fast, only 850 mph. So it will take him 12.4 years for him to reach the sun. So there will be a lot of movies in-between then and when he gets there.

The legend has returned.Lol.
Speaking of Eternals, something that struck me.
So, I keep forgetting and then remembering that Phastos is based on/supposed to be Hephaestus. Probably the most well-known Hephaestus story is him trapping Aphrodite and Ares in an unbreakable net while they were having sex.
I haven't taken the time to look into it, but I feel fairly confident that the restraints that Phastos uses to defeat Ikaris are supposed to be the same thing as that net.

Maybe he can fly faster outside atmosphere
No friction to slow down his acceleration, etc
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah, I agree. That is a lot of time to have a think about whether suicide maybe isn't a good idea after all.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo I decided to check how the Netflix shows are stored on Disney+.
Surprisingly, they get their own section called The Defenders Saga which includes all six shows, and aren't under the legacy section nor the television series section (side note, I didn't realize Inhumans was already on Disney+. How long has that been there?).
Incidentally, as of this move, is Daredevil s2e03 the first property on Disney+ to say "fuck" uncensored?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

I don't like the change, but energy powers are probably easier to do on-screen, especially since the CGI people already had some experience depicting that with Carol. Makes me wonder how they're going to adapt her saving Zoe and her boyfriend (Carl?), now that I think about it.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my Tumblr
