Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Man, that reminds me of that Ultimate Spider-Man comic when comic Sam Raimi is actually making a Spider-Man movie, and Peter is pissed he doesn't see a single penny from it.
Then Doc Ock crashes it, he fights Spidey, it's caught on film, and it makes millions at the box office.
And Peter is annoyed local bully and self-insert got more money and fame out of it than he could.

The first issue of Runaways even started with Alex Wilder playing an Avengers MMO.
Even with the explanation that superheroes have their own in-universe comic lines, they still get treated more like fictional characters by in-universe fans than like real world celebrities.
There’s a bit from Dan Slott’s She-Hulk run where fans at a comic book store pester Shulkie about continuity errors in her biographical comic, to which her friend Stu challenges them to come with answers themselves and win a No-Prize. Obviously this only fits in a comic book world.
I can believe there would be in universe real person shipping given the culture of how superheroes are treated in universe as personas or characters that are heavily marketed (often without the concent of the hero)
Marvel comics in universe publish fictionoised biographies of the heroes, why shouldn't the fans.
I mean, probably neither of them should be doing it in universe.
The line between shipping characters and shipping real people can get murky when there are movies and TV shows and the like based on them. Like, if someone's a fan of the TV show /The Crown and writes fanfiction that ships, say, Prince Charles and Margaret Thatcher, they're not necessarily thinking about the real people those characters are based on.

Neat stuff. Curious to see what we get from this film!
Speaking of cool things, looks like we got War Machine for Secret Invasion too
.
I'll admit I was kind of hoping that this series wasn't actually going to have any Avengers in it, in lieu of being some sort of alien conspiracy government thriller that focused on Badass Normal main characters. But in fairness, we really need more War Machine, so I'm cool with this.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."And of all heroes, War Machine does make a degree of sense. Given his past working with the military and SHIELD its not that implausible he ends up working with/for another agency again.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."I think he will. I remember Jackson saying he wants to keep playing him for as long as he possibly can.

While I'm totally cool with that idea, it is worth noting that Jackson is in his early seventies, only two years older than William Hurt before he died. I hope there's some kind of exit strategy for Fury, because it would be really lame if they have to kill him offscreen because of actor mortality.
Call me paranoid, but after we lost Chadwick and the guy playing Midnight Man, I'm just worried anyone's going to die at the drop of a hat.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Still, even if he does go, he'll have left behind one hell of a motherfuckin' legacy, so we can at least be content with that.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonHe gave a good interview recently
about reckoning with his family’s history of Alzheimer’s. He keeps on acting to assure himself he’s still here.
I think that they changed Kamala's origin because her comic book origin was linked to the Inhumans, and if ''that'' series put Hawaii off the table I'm pretty sure Terrigen Mist is off too.
Besides, We Don't talk about Inhumans No, No, No
newdeal4animationI am curious how they will portray her getting her powers (I'm guessing the bracelet is Kree or at least alien to tie into Captain Marvel, but I've heard some other theories). It also goes along with the trend to seemingly not acknowledge and not directly contradict the Marvel TV shows.
You and I remember Budapest very differentlyI'm not surprised at them wanting to get rid of the Inhuman connection but that's not an explanation for them changing her powers outright. They could still have her gain the same Sizeshifting and polymorphing abilities through any number of other means.
I still suspect they changed her powers as some kind of way to link her more closely to Carol and Monica. That's the explanation that makes the most sense to me, even if I still don't like it.
When we're done, there won't be anything left.

The way superheroes are treated in universe in marvel its like they're both real people and the IP that they are out of universe.
There's just a ton of fictional and based on a true story entertainment based on superheroes in the marvel universe. Captain America used to draw Captain America comics. The Fantastic Four used to call up John Byrne after every adventure to give him the plot to the next issue of Fantastic Four. But world outside your window means that there's marvel merchandise inside the marvel universe. Video games based on the Avengers and action figures and lunch boxes and all of that the superheroes don't see a dime of.
Kamala writes Avengers fanfiction because she's a superhero fan, like much of the audience. Its weird because the Avengers are actual people that she can actually meet. But that's not the only time marvel characters have been treated like marvel characters even though it doesn't make sense.
And for what its worth, Kamala didn't write a Scott/Emma romance fic. She mentioned to Wolverine that her Wolverine/Storm team-up story got the second most number of likes and morbid curiosity drove him to ask what got the number one number. And then he whined when it turned out to be a Scott story. Then again, he had lost his healing factor so he just wasn't having a good time in general.
