Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

For an actual source
. Apparently he had been struggling with prostate cancer since 2018 and that's the likely cause of his death.
Thunderbolt Ross was never that big if a character, so I wouldn't be surprised if The Character Died with Him.
Though I guess this means if the Thunderbolts ends up happening, it'll be named in the character's honor, rather than being under his command.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."I feel like the character will pass away with the actor here and any plans for Ross will be slotted in some substitute. The comics have plenty: Glenn Talbot, John Ryker and Reginald Fortean all fulfilled the General Ripper archetype of Ross some time or another. Talbot was also in AOS, but there's 0 doubt in my mind they will finish off making AOS non-canon (or a alternate reality at best).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Goddamn about William Hurt. R.I.P.
Well, not quite. They could always use Robert Maverick,
a Red Hulk created by Al Ewing for U.S.Avengers because Ross was off-limits at the time. (I think.)

His health problems were very much on display
◊ in his limited screentime in Black Widow.
And they were around for a long time. I think I recall them almost replacing Hurt with Bryan Cranston for Civil War (probably a good thing they didn't, otherwise Wanda might wonder why he looks so much like Hal).
As for What If...?, well, in the episodes where Ross had speaking parts, they used Michael Patrick McGill to voice him.

Don't see why? I already expressed my sadness in this
post, where I even wondered what the fate of Ross would be now.
I'm not too keen on Red Hulk because I never liked the direction Loeb took the character to with this move. I prefer the General as he was originally.

Do you mean this concept art
with Cranston as Ross?
I misunderstood what you meant nevermind.
I liked the direction Jeff Parker took it though. His run gave us Fortean too.

Given that Sam Elliott portrayed Ross in the 2003 Hulk adaptation directed by Ang Lee, do you think he will reprise his role in the MCU if Disney/Marvel does recast the character?

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.RIP Hurt. Man, that is so sad. They never really gave Ross a chance to shine beyond The Incredible Hulk film.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread

Speaking of the Rosses, sad news today: reports are coming in that William Hurt (actor who plays Gen. Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross) has died.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
