Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Matt would totally try to talk them down.

If they're doing shit like actually using firearms and lethal force, he'd probably also beat them up.

I haven't heard of these guys before, but having also just saw The Batman, I think a group of villains who embody those themes mentioned would be very cool.

I still haven't seen the show yet, but based on what I'm hearing about these Devil worshippers, Matt raising them as a private army would being way too much attention to him.

It is a plot point in the current Daredevil run where Matt stops being DD, a bunch of people start wearing DD costumes to defend the street in honor of him.

There’s interesting stuff there.

Wait, I haven't seen The Batman yet, but wasn't this also a plot point in The Dark Knight?

Wouldn't call it a plot point as it disappeared pretty much entirely after that one Fake-Batman was killed.

But it was addressed temporarily yes.

Not surprised you don't remember, they're mantioned rather off-handedly back in Season 2, but they're basically a bunch of people inspired by Daredevil to go around doing vigilante justice, which is a very interesting plot thread that has remained unexplored.

After Brett mentioned them, they could've brought this back in season 3 when Fisk was sending out Dex in a Daredevil suit, and have it where some think that Dex is one of those "Devil Worshippers".

it would be pretty hypocritical for Matt to try to talk others down from being vigilantes while he's a vigilante, why's it okey for him but not them?

He's Catholic, hypocritical guilt is a core tenant of the belief system.

Jokes aside, if it did come up, the reason would be because his Super-Senses let him detect guilt and find people to rescue far better than normals. The question is if anyone in-universe even knows he has powers. I highly doubt he'd be in any position to explain anything publicly.

I still feel it would be better if he tried to recruit them, maybe even train them and guide them, he could do more for the city with followers of his own.

He did have a sidekick in the Charles Soule run.

Blindspot has a suit that can turn him invisible, also a Chinese illegal immigrant. Pretty cool character, great to have him in the next DD thing.

I feel like how comfortable he'd be with copycat vigilantes would depend on how likely he thinks it is they'll get themselves killed.

Yeah, DD has both years of training/experience and actual superpowers - some Rando off the streets with nothing but good intentions is probably not going to be very effective.

I know he's had other actual superheroes stand in for him before (Iron Fist and Spidey) but those again have powers and expertise beyond have-a-go heroics.

[up] Yeah, the moment I saw her frame from the teaser trailer, I figured she'll be one of the more slender depictions of the design.

Also, there's another bottle with a front facing render. The hair isn't flowing in this one.

I'd need to see it onscreen, I think.

I prefer the costume with more white, though.

[up][up] Yeah I figured they'll be toning down her physique once I realized that even for a Disney+ show, having a Hulk character during the majority of it would be too expensive

And Jen is capable of casually being in her She-Hulk form in her day to day life.

It should be noted that it's likely concept art being shown given how it usually goes for early merch like this. Not that the overall design's likely to change too much but we're not going to ultimately know how it's gonna look until we get official footage.

In other news Ms. Marvel has a Hollywood premiere June 2nd, which suggests that the show premieres June 8th, significantly earlier than earlier reports.

I don't hate that Shulk concept art. It's burlier than the teaser suggested, and her hair has at least volume even if it's weird seeing her without curls.

I've been thinking about this. The biggest test of their budget is probably going to be how much she's going to be Jennifer Walters and how much she's going to be She-Hulk. Is she going to eventually start being Shulkie all the time, like in the comics, or are they just going to bring it out for short bursts to save money?

That's the big thing I'm waiting to see, tbh.
