Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Interesting note: the closed captions of the trailer refer to the evil Strange as Sinister Strange. Killer name, and I'm sure x-theorists will fucking lose it.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."New poster for the film
, featuring Captain Carter's shield in the bottom right.
That monster made of ribbons attacking America Chavez at the start looks cool as flip.
it also looks like there are six (or possibly seven) seats at the Illuminati. Also those drones escorting Strange look like a blend between the Iorn Legion and Ultron drones, and I think an Ultron would make an excellent member of the Illuminati if you didn't want to use Tony so soon. Moreover that certainly looks like Carol going toe to toe with America. From the back you can see what looks like blond hair streaming behind her helmet.
Curious.

Trick with the Illuminati is to cover all the power sources of the marvel universe.
Space, political, tech, magic and mutants, (and maybe Inhumans if they're a big deal at the time
So a varient Strange, Carol and Xavier seem like a must for magic, space and mutants
The other three slots could go in a few directions. for tech I'm really hoping it's Ultron, but a Morgan Stark would work. The poster would have me believe that politics would be covered by Captain Carter, but I just don't buy that we'd see a villionous take on that character, unless she's the token good. Killmonger or Nick Fury would be more that speed. Or even Doctor Doom if we wanted to get really out there.

Here's the two different Stranges I believe you were trying to show us.
On a general note I love how every movie is increasingly fitting the truly crossover aspect comics can get where characters can team up and encounter villains out of their respective franchises and this one is no different. Doc Strange teaming up with the Scarlet Witch and America Chavez to face threats including possibly Illuminati and a Captain Marvel variant.
Its interesting cause to use a comparison, the Logan film is based on the Old Man Logan comic which is a comic that has Logan teaming up with Hawkeye and over the course of the story he encounters Mysterio, a symbiote dinosaur, a Spider-Woman, the Hulk Gang and the Hulk himself, and the Red Skull in Bucky's Captain America suit. Barley any actual X-characters in the book, it was largely Logan dealing with characters from various Marvel franchises.
By contrast Logan distilled all that to primarily within just the X-lane so the only people Logan encounters are X-characters and the only villains are the Reavers and X-24.
Pretty crazy how far we have come.

If rumors are to be believed, Tom Cruise has been cast as that Tony Stark.
A Tony Stark varient plaid by a different actor would work really well. As Tony Stark can very easily, and unambiguously, look like Tony Stark even when plaid by someone else.
I think The Illuminati will be populated by people that will be meaningful to the audience. So I think a Patrick Stewart Xavier, a Benedic Cumberbatch Strange, a Captain Marvel, a non Robert Downey Jr Tony Stark and a non Chaswik Boseman/T'challa Black Panther are plausable.
However, I think for this same reason a Nova, a Blackbolt, or a Namor are less likely as they won't hold weight to the audience.
I will say though that a Doug Jones Silver Surfer would work under my expectations, but that character would step on the toes of the Captain Marvel varient we're seemingly getting.

That really has no bearing on Wanda here because she actually has been used as a character.
I mean Civil War was crap in the comics but the movie is actually pretty good.
