Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

To be fair here, the costume would be evidently more accurately the work of Declan Shalvey
(i.e the artist who drew it) than Ellis.
He's in fact quite happy about it, apparently.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Wait, I'm confused. How did Moon Knight go from a Badass Cape In the Hood to a Badass in a Nice Suit that looks like Slender Man if he were a magician?
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Mr. Knight's status as an alter is a tad nebulous. He appears to be something akin to a Split-Personality Merge sort of deal (i.e all personalities combined into one). He's almost never identified as an actual separate personality (particularly given Ellis' run largely eschews the DID thing).

Mr. Knight’s relatively recent IIRC, we’ve only really discussed the other four because no one expected him to appear so soon.
Also: AOS is leaving Netflix as well

It's usually four alters at a time: Marc Spector (the mercenary soldier), Jake Lockley (the working class cabbie), Steve Grant (the Rich Idiot With No Day Job) and the fabled Moon Knight/Mr. Knight (if you count him, he replaces MK).
The numerical four is important because it tends to be addressed as each identity/alter represents one of the main four phases of the moon: new moon, first quarter (represented by the waning crescent), full moon, and last quarter (represented by the waxing crescent). I don't think there has ever been a 1:1 of moon phases to each personality (although one would obviously guess the full moon is Moon Knight), but the numerelogical motif tends to pop up.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."
If Moon Knight were on TV Tropes, he'd be the ultimate ban evader.

Kind of cool how each of his personalities is based on the moon's phases actually. Though now I have to wonder what Jake Lockley is gonna be like, seeing as though Steven Grant seems to have taken his place as the "working class hero", at least based on the trailer.
Do each of Spector's personalities have different power/intelligence levels based on what phase of the moon it is?
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."No, it's not normally tied as directly as that - any single one of the alters can be dominant at any time of the month. The exact reason that the change occurs and how much of a conscious choice it is also seems to be variable Depending on the Writer.
Sometimes he can willingly switch to an alter best suited to the situation, sometimes it is a bit of a Hulk Out deal and sometimes on between.
Mr Knight is significant in that he seems to be an alter that Marc deliberately created/adopted as a "best of all worlds" option.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Yeah the decision to give Jake's role to Steve is a little strange, though they're seeemingly playing Steve here as very mild, vulnerable and a bit of a Nervous Wreck. Jake Lockley tends to be more of a rough, gritty blue-collar guy (despite that description, he's consistently the most moral of the four).
As for the moon thing, it's as I said, I don't think they've ever done a 1:1 of phases to the moon to each personalty per see. The only case that's reasonably clear-cut is Moon Knight with the Full Moon, as MK is explicitly stated to be sharper and more powerful during a full moon and weaker during a lunar eclipse.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Heh here's a funny character meet-up, Red Guardian and Bucky.
Like Guardian always prided himself as being Russia's Captain America but the Winter Soldier was more Russia's ultimate warrior than he was and the Winter Soldier wasn't even an actual Russian but a brainwashed American soldier.
Be amusing to know what Guardian thinks of Bucky.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."

That is a really nice suit.
