Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Wanda’s subconscious: “Swiggity swooty, you crave this booty”
Ultron: “Apparently I have a libido. Fun!”
Forever liveblogging the AvengersY'all can have your own thoughts; I am completely fine with sex and/or nudity on screen as long as the actors involved aren't being exploited. At least, if we're going to get all preachy about sex when assigning ratings, we should treat it and violence in an equivalent manner. You can have hundreds of bodies on screen with a PG-13 rating but a "dirty" body part pokes out and it's straight to the R bucket. You can have blood and guts squirting out of orifices but as soon as a penis appears, the Moral Guardians go into paroxysms of performative outrage. (Yes, I am slightly exaggerating, but not much.)
There's nothing shameful about sexuality except what we create in our minds (assuming consent from all parties, of course).
Now, the MCU isn't too bad about this. It's got a few brutal maimings, like what Hela does to Thor's eye, but overall the violence is mostly in the "knock them down a bunch" and "obliterate hordes of CGI monsters" categories. I wouldn't say that it contributes to the hypocrisy of our attitudes so much as fails to meaningfully challenge it.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!""I mean, he did seem genuinely sad when Wanda betrayed him. That moment always stuck with me, actually.
He's very soft spoken with Wanda in the final act of AOU. He's even like "You need to save yourself" at one point. "
Is intersting because ultron in many ways is based on tony stark mind just unfettred, like his opinion on cap? that is something tony would said(hell spiderman telling cap what tony tell him just reinforce this point).
If you can use Utron in a way to see what tony belive the result is....intersting, to said the least.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"A reminder that the guy who started this discussion is Steven Soderbergh
, AKA the Magic Mike guy. He might be a tad biased when it comes to sex in media.
It leads me to ask other things like, was Ultron's crash-landing right outside the church near where Wanda was standing just pure chance or did Wanda's reality warping subconsciously manipulate that in a "the murderbot killed my brother, bring him to me" way?
Okey Dokey!I mean, I never liked Wanda's powers, honestly. (but then, I don't like it when any character has god like powers. It's good for one off stories where you can really explore the concept, but then you have to dance around their powers to make other conflicts work)
Like, if she controls luck then she can just make anything happen.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."RE chasemaddigan's post - Something I notice with those examples is that they aren't at all "romantic". Most of them are to establish the male character as cool/manly. And there isn't a suggestion in a lot of them of the character being caring towards their partner (in some cases, quite the opposite).
I'm also thinking of the scene with Tony and Christina (Cristina?) the reporter, in the first Iron Man movie.
So, I'd say that while I'm not advocating for more explicit sex in the MCU, some more romance would be nice.
His name is Jasper Keaton
. He's an evil businessman whose savings and loan was facing seizure by the government, which lead to him trying to find a stolen bomb in order to return it to them in exchange for not seizing his company. He also founded the American Purity Foundation and led an anti-smut campaign in 1968 in a failed attempt to clean up the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. He even sponsored the creation of Captain Rectitude, a superhero whose biological drives were replaced with a strong anti-sex instinct.
Uh their is weirder. Marvel has done every weird variation of Evil CEO around. Like tv producers who...sell chemical weapons.
Their was also that time Dario Agger
created a genetically mofided species of Bear to eat the worlds Salmon supplies. So he could maximise his own farmed salmon profits. No really.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Marvel also had the Quiet Man, a guy who engaged in all sorts of corporate and political shenanigans to ruin the Fantastic Four's lives...because he was a creepy Stalker with a Crush for Sue Storm during college. And he never got over her marrying Reed even though the guy never once approached her himself.
Fantastical elements aside, it's a disturbingly realistic motivation — just look at Eliot Rodger.

Disgusted, but not surprisedhttps://www.thecosmiccircus.com/report-the-goddess-bast-will-appear-in-thor-love-and-thunder/
Not really sure what to say about this article.

I wonder if maybe Wanda was subconsciously influencing Ultron? Like how she shut down that Stark missile as child?
