Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I don't think "Dark Avengers" is going to be the official name. I think that team and the Young Avengers are both just going to go by "Avengers" in-universe, and they'll fight over who gets to officially take the place of the original team.

So something like that Secret Avengers? At least two versions of that team where something like a spy team.
There's a 50-50 chance they're the Dark Avengers in pretty much everything but are still called "Thunderbolts" because that name rolls off the tongue better.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Y'know, Natalie Portman may be 40, but that's still younger than Anthony Mackie at 43. Maybe Jane-Thor will replace Thor on the Young Avengers, making the first iteration of the Young Avengers roster be:
- Captain America (Sam)
- Iron Man (Riri)
- Thor (Jane)
- She-Hulk
- Hawkeye (Kate)
- Black Widow (Yelena)
That... tracks almost TOO well.
I think it's going to be Young Avengers In Name Only, more representing just the next generation of Avengers.
I'm not entirely certain if Blonsky's gonna pull off a Heel–Face Turn, and I doubt Banner's going to agree with Jennifer if she paroles him. I just sense there's too much darkness in him. I just really, really hope he takes the stand in his transformed state, if only because a transformed Abomination taking the stand would be a damn funny image.
As for the Young Avengers vs. Dark Avengers debate, I'll say that I still think it's too early to be able to truly predict anything. But I bet it'll be a thing that happens.
Also, don't forget that Eli Bradley exists! It's obvious Sam is way too old to be part of the "Young" Avengers, hence why it would make sense for him to be involved with him.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."This image hits different now.
(For those confused, its group photo of actresses Elizabeth Olsen, Gwyneth Paltrow, Brie Larson, Evangeline Lilly, and Letitia Wright on the set of Avengers: Endgame with the caption "this hits different now" referencing all of their... controversies.
Look we can’t blame Olsen for that, she was under the influence of a dramatic script
Forever liveblogging the AvengersShe plays a Romani character when she herself isn't one, which is essentially whitewashing. Not only that but she used the word gypsy ( a slur used against Romani people) when describing her halloween costume in Wanda Vision.
(Her casting falls Marvel's shoulders but still.)

I gotta be honest, I don't think the term "Gypsy" is one of those slurs that many people even know is a slur. Many people typically and mistakenly just regard it as a harmless noun that describes a certain group of people. So when someone says that word, I typically blame it more on ignorance than actual malice.

The Final NamePlus, doesn't the show itself use the word to describe the costume? I mean, we could probably chalk that one up to Deliberate Values Dissonance.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI don't think the people on Twitter seem to care about whether it's an accident or not, they just seem to be complaining about the whitewashing and aforementioned slur use.
I'll be honest, I didn't know that word was a slur until...last year I think? I quickly switched over to Romani because I always thought it sounded cooler, being a Zelda fan and all.
But I'll admit, even before I found out the connotations of what "Gypsy" meant, I never was super comfortable using it because it felt weird to say.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."It's one of those Values Dissonance things where the term is more obviously a slur in Europe, but in America it's become romanticized so that many Americans like Olsen think it's a neutral or even positive term, but for reasons that are ultimately steeped in wildly inaccurate exoticization and appropriation, so it's still racist but in a way that is just as difficult to get rid of. It'd be similar to Europeans using and celebrating the term "Indian" based on Braids, Beads and Buckskins stereotypes. The best solution in this kind of situation is to educate.

The use of "gypsy" is more dicey, but I wouldn't blame Olsen for being cast as a Romani character. It's doubtful she even knew about it (Hell, it's a often-forgotten tidbit even among comic fans). That blame lies more in the Marvel casting department (or perhaps more precisely Joss Whedon).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."

I've heard rumors that Blonsky will be paroled in She Hulk. And yeah, I definitely take Shang Chi as evidence of him mellowing out and having a Heel–Face Turn (but still enjoying a good fight). I kind of figure that besides doing fixed prize fights with Wong, Wong restored his sanity with that "punch out of body" thing.
I can kind of picture a dialogue where Walker calls Blonsky out on going on a rampage and Blonsky notes that he served his time while Walker got Kicked Upstairs.
