Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Y'know, I just thought of something. If Marvel does end up listening to Vincent D'Onofrio's pleas to have Kingpin fight against Spider-Man, it would be a pretty cool opportunity to introduce the black symbiote suit for him to wear, eh? Since the symbiote preys on Peter's darker emotions, and the Kingpin comes from a darker side of the MCU, it would be really cool to see.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."They have a singular opportunity here to do a rebooted, more comics accurate version of Hellcat, so they might as well tbh. It could be a Broad Strokes version who has similar history as the Netflix version but didn't go violently insane (like what they may or may not be doing with Daredevil, Kingpin, etc), or they could be extra cheeky and go "no, I get this all the time: my name is Patsy Walker. That other Patricia Walker who goes by Trish and just got locked up? Totally different person."
My favorite thing about comics Hellcat's history is that she doesn't really have a specific niche. She's just... involved in crazy shit. "Shit be crazy" is her niche.

I keep wanting to believe that had the Netflix shows not been cancelled, season 4 of Jessica Jones would go something like this: Jessica would leave Malcolm running Alias, while Erik tries to do good (similar to Foggy moving to Hogarth Chao & Benowitz at the end of Daredevill season 2 while Karen goes to work for the New York Bulletin), and Trish is down and out for the moment, but there's a little glimmer of her future redemption in the way that she seems to be starting to realize the error of her ways at the very end of the season. Meanwhile, Jessica runs away to Mexico.
Season 4 would then start with Jessica having been gone from the city a while, coming back to find Erik and Malcolm having come to be in very different positions. Maybe Jessica is drawn back by something going on with them, or by the potential of a way to save Trish, and having to choose not to run even though so many terrible things happen to her. Whatever the case, I doubt that Trish would stay locked up for the entirety of season 4. I could see Jessica agonize over what to do about Trish, consider breaking her out, decide against it, drink a bit… and then maybe Trish would break herself out. Or outside forces would intervene.
I've sometimes worked my brain a bit trying to figure out what sort of defense strategy a lawyer would use if Trish got a trial for her crimes.
Okey Dokey!Patsy’s history is so funny because she’s a teen romcom character who got transplanted into a superhero world. The genre shift in her continuity is so abrupt. It’s like if To All the Boys I've Loved Before ended with “and just as Lara Jean wrapped up the mixup of her love letters and began dating her high school sweetheart, she suddenly FELL IN A PORTAL TO HELL AND WAS CURSED WITH UNDEAD SUPERNATURAL POWERS!”
She was a romance character and then she blackmailed Beast into finding her some superpowers so he invited her on a ride along to scare her off the idea but the Avengers find Tigra's old super suit just laying around in the villain lair and decide to give it to her and then it turned out she had psychic power and Moondragon dragged her off to go train on the moon and then she foundstole a magic cloak and then she married the antichrist
Geez she really is a little everything.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersShe married Damien Hellstrom, Son of Satan.
Like her first marriage, it was very bad.
Oh, right. Damien is Wayne.

Oh God! Natural light!Huh ya know I think the last big Thor villain left is the Mangog.
He is basically Thor's Doomsday, an unstoppable immortal engine of death and destruction empowered by the souls of a civilization Asgard previously conquered who will never stop until all Gods are dead. Which granted is a bit of similar motivation to Gorr.
There's also Amora the Enchantress though she's not strictly a villain.

Helpfully Jormungandr famously lives on Midgard*

Forever liveblogging the AvengersYes, but with Asgard gone they've basically jettisoned the entire "mythological gods" side of Thor as Ragnarok (where Jormungandr has the Mutual Kill with Thor) already happened, with a rather noticeable absence of World Serpent action. Fenrir showed up, Surtr got his moment, but Big J got passed over.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI find it weird that Amora has never shown up at all in the MCU considering her prominence in the Thor mythos.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonThe Thor movies are in an interesting place as they essentially destroyed the fun magical place where all the stuff happens or comes from.
Asgard’s destroyed so that knocks a lot of Norse Myth stuff out of the picture.
Though it does provide a good story for Mangog ala revenge is pointless. Mangog shows up wanting revenge for his people only by this point Asgard is destroyed and it’s only remnants are a small amount of people, with any person involved in Asgard’s imperialism long dead.
Though Mangog doesn’t care due to its very nature so instead of being an avenger for a dead people, it just becomes a murderous monster.

It does actually sound like something Waititi would do: have this unstoppable Doomsday-esque rage monster show up hell bent on destroying Asgard... only to find out that "Asgard" is now a small village in Norway.

I think Hank would be grumpy on principle but it’s not like he’s going to complain about being undusted
