Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I dont mind the heavy weight super heroes being reduced to reasonably powerful in the MCU but I dislike it when that power squishing ends up being uneven, and Hulk seems to have been uniquely left behind because he hasn't had any of his own films to progress his power creep.
In Phase 3 and even phase 2 Hulk gets bested a lot. Hulk Buster has an admittably satisfying and hard fought win against Hulk. Hulk technically beats a hammerless Thor in Ragnarok, but needs the Grandmaster to rig it for him. Thanos trounces him entirely.
Man, that deleted scene from Infinity War is the one deleted scene I wished they added back into an MCU film. It would've actually given Bruce and Hulk a proper resolution to their arc. That's the problem. Professor Hulk in Endgame was supposed to be the epilogue to that plotline, but the cut the resolution and had it happened off-screen.
"Hulk's big wins are mostly destroying mook armies or voiceless giant monsters like the Leviathan or Fenis. "
Even is win against fenrir seen off because they just fall in asgard rather than hulk killing him.
I still salty that ragnarok didnt give us jormungander vs Hulk, now that would be epic.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Abomination is a starter villain and since then qe havn't really gotten any Hulk villains.
Leader hasn't shown up despite being teased at the end of The Incredible Hulk.
As said Hulk mostly just fights the armies and occasionally a big monster.
Oh shit man that would have been epic.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Professor Hulk does have the strength though, right? Didn't he hold up the wreckage of the Avenger's compound in Endgame? What he lacks is the desire to fight people, because Banner is generally a pretty reserved guy. And even if he did feel the need to fight, it'd be pretty different since he lacks that extreme aggression.
I will say something for Ang Lee's Hulk film, and that was the the fight between Hulk and Absorbing man was amazing and makes me want to see Absorbing man in the MCU.
Absorbing man is one of those elemental villains who are feesibly impossible to kill (even if with science easy to trap and defeat) so you can show your heroes really cutting loose against them, but absorbing man can be ANY element he comes in contact with, allowog for really dynamic multi stage fights.
Great for giving Hulk and opotunity to display his strength, but also Banner his intelligence.
And since he pretty much can't be killed or captured, can easily escape, but needs down time to reconstruct his body, he makes for a good recurring villain.
I'd say introduce him in a Thor film if we can't wait for a hulk film, but Thor is probably going to have his hands soon in Love and Thunder already.

Ouch, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just got dissed.
I think the Hulk’s lack of focus means both aspects of the character get shafted.
There’s no focus on Hulk’s cerebral parts, the dualism in how the Hulk represents Bruce’s broken mental state, or the various issues surrounding Bruce that lead to the creation of the Hulk. Is it confirmed whether Bruce had a shitty childhood?
Then the people who like the Hulk purely for the spectacle are also let down because he rarely gets a chance to really cut loose. The most he gets is fighting fodder but he never gets the big one on one moments against a major villain barring his fight with Thanos that ended in his loss.
So Hulk just ends up rather diluted with neither the compelling character drama or the astonishing feats that makes him well-liked.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."With the exception of Ragnarok and Infinity War, MCU Hulk has always been an extension of Banner rather than alternate personality anyway (and the change gets a good explanation as being a consequence of being Hulk for so long in space after Ultron), which is arguably something the lack of a solo Hulk film allowed to happen. I tbh prefer that characterization to comics Hulk's "Banner is ultimately the guy who carries Hulk around" dichotomy, so I've always liked that more distant take on him.
Y'know, Hulk's brief moment in What If where he fights off a bunch of zombies was kinda cool, and I like that he was given the Adaptational Badass treatment in that episode. Maybe it's just me tho.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."

He brought everyone back from the Snap, so I wouldn't say he barely did anything in Endgame.
