Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

"And to my daughter Morgan, I leave Sol's Hammer. My partial dyson sphere that shoots a solar powered kill laser."
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBetween Tony willing EDITH to Peter and Doctor Strange rushing blindly into a spell that has the potential to destroy reality without even hashing the specifics out ahead of time, I feel like the Spider-Man writers really don't know how to write the main MCU heroes.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!![]()
Well Tony can never really get a leg up on Hulk. Same with Thor, Tony has attempted many times to establish his domineer on Thor only for Thor to remind him that he’s nothing more than a tin man in a suit to him.
Black Panther is exempt from this though, his tech is allowed to reach Hulk and Thor’s level to kick their asses.
I’m reminded of this moment in Immortal Hulk Hulk is fighting the Avengers. Now he tears through Tony’s new Hulkbuster like paper mache and gives Thor a concussion, but Black Panther without any major enhancements cuts through his limbs like a knife through butter and is the only Avenger who does any significant damage to him.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."![]()
Well to be fair, Spider-Man's stories are primarily supposed to be about the title character, so it makes sense that the writing would be a bit weaker for the other heroes.
It doesn't help that per the Sony contract, most of the other heroes were pretty much forced to show up Spidey's films to basically say "Hey, look! Peter's in the MCU! He's part of the MCU! This hero is giving him unnecessary help to establish that Peter's in the MCU!"

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."It's now occurred to me: when did Tony arrange for Peter to get the Edith glasses? Was this something he set up before the Snap happened and never bothered changing after Peter died, or did he, in between planning the Time Heist and actually going on it, take some time to arrange what would happen in case he died but Peter got brought back to life?
Or, when he used the Infity Gauntlet to Blip everyone back to life, did he add "and whip up some fancy smart glasses to give to Peter" while he was at it?
Well, according to Immortal Hulk, gamma radiation literally is a magical force of infinite power, the byproduct of the One Below All's hatred of all existence.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks Marathon![]()
While it doesn't work perfectly, I think "did it before the snap and didn't bother changing" probably works. While I could see Tony just-pre-time-heist thinking about what happened if he failed, 'succeeding at undoing the snap but still dying' is possibly too specific.
I feel like Immortal Hulk is just the worst power creep. Thankfully none of that has been used in the MCU thus far.
I'm also reminded of this moment from Avengers Assemble where Black Panther actually fights Thor one on one and wins cause he kept blasting him with lightning which T'Challa then redirects with his tech.
Thats all he did in the fight weirdly enough. Just stood around and shoot lightning, he didn't even try to hit him with the hammer.
Jason Aaron's Avengers says hello. That starts with the growing giant-sized and beating up a bunch of Celestials of which Iron Man did create a Celestial sized mech armor that actually work.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."There is a difference between the comics Gamma radiation and the movies.
Bruce becomes the Hulk in the comics when bombarded by Gamma radiation.
Whilst in Movies it was a combination of Gamma and an imperfect super-soldier serum.
In the comics anyone who exposes themselves Gamma radation would become a mutant.
In the movies it seems that Banner is the only 'true' gamma mutant, all others get gammaed up via exposer from his gamma blood (though how effective it is is proberly a cause of plot)
Sincerely S Awatching.Actually in the comics most people just get sick when exposed to gamma radiation.
Only people who share common ancestry with Banner or people genetically modified for it will become gamma mutates.
Immortal Hulk ended up reinforcing this by revealing that Banner and Sterns (ie the Leader) are distantly related.

Disgusted, but not surprisedIt's kinda weird. EDITH was framed as yet another thing Tony casually did. Just your totally non-lethal drones that are only bad when used by bad guys. Totally not some watered-down version of Ultron or Project Insight.
As for Strange's spell, it's a bit disturbing that they frame this massive scope mind-wiping spell as something that Doctor Strange can casually do without any real consequence if done correctly. The fact they frame it this way retrospectively creates problems for previous movies and later ones, because this is a mind-wiping spell that has no range, target limitation, etc. and which Strange can technically just spam.

Okey Dokey! In fairness, having a kaiju sized celestial fighting armor hidden on Mars in case he ever needed to fight Celestials is 100% something Tony would do
The fact that his giant armor wasn’t great at actually fighting Celestials, in the tradition of all his -buster armors, just makes it more accurate
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

He looks like an enemy from Bioshock or something to me.
