Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

That's actually pretty impressive considering Matt's senses should have caught some kind of poison. I can only imagine what Beck used that got past Matt's abilities.
As for whether closure on defeating a villain works or not, I think it's a situational thing. There are some times where not being sure if they won or not can work in their favour.

I mean it makes sense here, Mysterio as a character doesn't exist he's a collective web of bullshit made up by sociopathic engineers who can regroup and hide if shit goes sideways with the guy on the front.
IMO, the trope can be bad when overdone but its preferrable to always killing villains for real or having jail seem stupidly ineffective

Prettiest Meta Knight Gijinka, nglI'm more observing how Zod and Mysterio are characters with entirely different premises. I usually agree that the constant back-and-forth about villains dying is silly, but Mysterio is runs on Mind Screw, moreso than many other villains. His finest hours as a character are when his illusions reach the point where even the audience is confused about what's real or not. Giving him a clear-cut ending is the most boring an trite thing you can do to him in my opinion, that makes him just like any other character. Far From Home even winked at that with Mysterio's death being deliberately nebulous.
Ultimatum points out this sort of thing is beetter for "horror" and that's the sort of character Mysterio can be, in his finest hours: a charactr of psychological horror. Paranoia is the name of the game.
Beck's a insanely gifted chemist when it comes to hallucinogenics. He just concocted something specifically for Murdock after a long time studiying his specific biology. Guardian Devil is Mysterio going ham on Crazy-Prepared.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."The funniest thing about Guardian Devil is that the only reason he’s bothering Daredevil instead of Spider-Man is because he got annoyed with the Clone Saga’s back and forth on who the real Spider-Man is and didn’t want to blow his Best Mindfreak Ever on a fake
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThese comments become even more hilarious when we factor in how the end of Guardian Devil shows us that Mysterio's ego is evidently so fragile, that once Matt verbally dissects him, Mysterio just plain shoots himself.
Mysterio's both horrifying AF and pathetic AF.

Huh.
Now I'm wondering if Matt ever fought Kraven the Hunter.
Like, Sergei used to juice himself up with Herbs to go toe to toe with Spidey, but Matt's senses and figuring out how to get around that would make him the ultimate prey. I'm surprised Kraven never tried.
One Strip! One Strip!Or you could go with his counterpart from the Spider-Ham universe: Deerdevil
.

Yeah, it's hard to choose between Yelena Belova and Kate Bishop.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Oh, that's right, Shang-Chi was another one that came out this year. Which means Katy is another contender. Fucking steals every scene she's in.

I agree that denying the hero closure is super annoying and to be honest, that works better in a horror movie where horror is never truly beaten to invoke a sense of hopelessness
