Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I like the first Doctor Strange but that movie was mostly sold by the imagery and special affects, which it delivered in spades, as opposed to being super compelling as a story.
I too was disappointed that the magic used in the first one wasn't all that creative, although in my opinion the magic doesn't look much different here than it did before. Just looks like the same runic/geometric symbol magic we've already seen, I mean it's still cool looking but not all that inventive or unique to me.

Tis the great art of life to manage well The restless mindI'm really waiting for an explanation of Clea if that's Rachel McAdams playing her. How it works and what it means to Christine Palmer. If that's really her that could mean more comics-like magic in the next movies, though they would have to change pretty much all we know about Dormammu, so we'll see.
Okey Dokey! For the same reason they used a very minor Dr. Strange villain in Shang Chi?
To be more direct, I'd bet the reason is because they wanted Strange to have a random monster fight with something as an action scene, wanted it to be an otherworldly-type beast, and specifically didn't want it to be Shuma because Shuma is a big deal and/or they wanted to save him for something, so they explicitly named it after another tentacle monster instead.

Really, I'm just wondering how much Loki is going to tie into this film, if at all.
It's clear that his series is incredibly important in allowing all this madness to happen, so the series is important on that front.
At the same time though, he seems more prioritized on stopping Kang and his variants than whatever the hell is happening here. So any direct lines to the actual character seem unlikely here.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Funny thought. I know we've been back and forth on whether Taskmaster can work as a mercenary in it for the money with the whole brainwashing thing of the character.
But recent events in Hawkeye have shown the possibility that that could happen. As we have outright confirmation of Black Widows that not only returned to the assassination gig after being cured but that they can have no problem with doing so going by Ana whose netted herself a fancy luxurious mansion through killing people for money.
So Antonia returning with her comic self's signature mercenary professionalism does appear more likely.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Eh, I was a little bit disappointed to find out that the teaser has nothing specific to do with No Way Home. Usually Marvel puts more meat in them.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I can confirm that it has nothing to do with Spiderman in the slightest.
Has something to do with Wandavision but it's mostly a line about, um, "Westview".
Need to finish that show someday.

I mean, I thought everyone was kvetching about getting a trailer for DS2 for a long while and I bet that Feige wanted to surprise them via NWH, so I kinda feel obligated to honor that.
(Probably doesn't help that the pandemic and the fact I don't have D+ has stopped me from catching up on the MCU in a legal manner.
)
I don't think Kevin Feige wants people to not watch a publicly released trailer. Yes, people who saw NWH opening weekend got to see it a bit early, but even when I saw it in theatres it was blindly obvious they just stapled the DS 2 teaser (that probably would of come out at roughly this time anyways) onto the end of NWH.
To answer that question from above, the key word is eventually. One of the more promising things in regards to Disney/Marvel & Sony’s working relationship going forward was the deal to have steaming rights to most of Sony’s library after Netflix starting next year including Spider-Man.
Nonetheless, it will go like this, Starz gets first dibs until that deal expires, then Netflix and lastly after a couple of months on that service, the films will head to Disney+ and some of those Disney-owned cable channels like FX.
I haven't got the chance to see No Way Home yet due to my country still being under lockdown, so I guess fuck me for accidentally getting a huge NWH spoiler when I didn't expect it, I guess.
You know exactly the person I'm talking about. The one who posted a goddamn unmarked NWH spoiler in here. You really should have been more considerate of other people.
I'm really mad now.
Cinemas haven't been allowed to open yet in many places, and many of us have no choice but to wait until the movie is available to watch elsewhere. I tried so damn hard to avoid NWH spoiler, and I came into this thread expected everyone to be respectful and considerate of people who haven't got to see it yet but still want to contribute to conversations about other MCU properties.

Jessica Henwick was up for the role of Xialing in Shang-Chi.
You and I remember Budapest very differentlyAnd apparently part of the reason she backed off was because she didn’t want to push Colleen Wing out of the MCU.
Henwick: That definitely did come up in the discussion. If I did [Shang-Chi], I would effectively be putting Colleen to bed. It wasn’t the main factor, but it definitely came up in conversation. I love Colleen. She changed my life. Of course, if I was given the opportunity to revisit her, I would, but I just don’t know how likely that is. […] I love Colleen. But we’ll see. I gave her a happy ending. She’s happily living in New York with Misty. They’re running their own business together. So she’s good where she is as well.

Usual policy is...I think, two weeks after it's released internationally?
