Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It's a trailer for Doctor Strange so I don't think it would be against the rules to mention it in Strange's dedicated thread. That being said that trailer indicates that it's pulling from many places in the current MCU. WandaVision, What If…? (2021), it's a sequel storywise to Spider-Man: No Way Home. So I could see the logic in just talking about it in this thread.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midInteresting bit, in Dark Avengers they had someone bearing the Scarlet Witch name and costume but it was a supervillain named Toxie Doxie who from what I read is basically an evil chemist.
So they pretty much will have anyone fill in a hero identity regardless of whether they fit or not.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I have also just seen the movie.
To quote the legendary Troy Barnes: I don't know what to do, my whole brain is crying.
sobs quietly in the corner
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Hoo boy, they certainly threw the kitchen sink at No Way Home, didn't they? I honestly can't discuss how much is taken from the comic books since I lack personal familiarity with them. What I can say is that the movie could have been a horrid mess but manages to hold its through-line together remarkably well by focusing on the specific struggle of the protagonist rather than the horde of villains trying to kill him.
This does result in the villains feeling a bit sidelined, but what can you do? Something's got to give in a 2 1/2 hour film. I like the feeling that Peter is trying to undo not just his own failures but those of the entire multiverse. The ending, of course, delivers that lovely gut punch we've gotten used to from Spider-Man stories and wraps up the Tom Holland trilogy in a nice little bow.
Be prepared for some heavy shit.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I felt the villains were handled well for the most part; there's no law saying they all have to be perfectly symmetrical and balanced, so some getting more screentime and importance is fine. Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe's reprisals of Doc Ock and Green Goblin were perfect, and I'm glad Jamie Foxx got to redeem his Electro. Lizard is obviously just kinda there as one more ugly face to punch, but again, that's fine.
There are a few characterization quibbles I have, such as Sandman being perfectly willing to team up with the other villains to murder Spider-Man just because he's impatient to go home— the exact opposite goal the other villains have, no less. Or the fact that Doctor Strange, a man who once prepared for a battle by looking at 14 million possible timelines just to be sure, would just blindly rush into a spell without first working out all the details with Peter ahead of time.
I still enjoyed the film, though.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Agreed, but something I find interesting about NWH is that it bears a certain resemblance to a gag from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In that book, it is said of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation that its products' superficial design flaws mask their fundamental design flaws. This film's surface-level spoilers conceal the really big spoilers underneath.
In a way, discussing the motivations of the villains is a red herring. It's all about Peter's. And hoo boy, I think he's a strong contender for the biggest martyr complex of any hero in the MCU.

So, I was just thinking about this. With Jarvis from Agent Carter making an appearance in Endgame, and with Daredevil, and possibly all of the Netflix stuff being re-canonized, isn't it quite ironic that Agents of SHIELD of all things, aka the very first MCU series that even directly connected with the movies in it's first seasons, is now more or less the ignored, red-headed step-child of the verse?
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianIt makes me sad as Agents of Shield was my favorite out of all the tv shows.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadIt sucks, especially since Agents of SHIELD was the only show to outright contradict the movies thanks to them ignoring the Snap after doing the Infinity War tie-ins at the end of season 5.
The other shows you can afford some wiggle room, but that was the only outright Continuity Snarl from the pre-Disney Plus series.
Of course, we don't know exactly what approach they'll take with the Netflix shows right now. It could be that they're still canon, they could apply Broad Strokes, or this could be an outright Role Reprise similar to J.K Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson.
Agent of Shield and it's ignored status is depressing.
As I understand it, they received no information about the effects of the Snap in Endgame, and were left with no choice but to do their own thing instead. Had they known, they probably would have used the time travel plot to avoid having any significant cast members be snapped in the first place.
There's also all the stuff with the Inhumans, which Marvel and Disney are avoiding like the plague, so that probably didn't help things.
One Strip! One Strip!
Also Fury and Hill, but one's not on Earth right now and the other... huh, where is Maria?
And I'm fairly certain Hawkeye's going to end with Clint retired for good this time and leaving Kate to pick up the reins.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonAnd I was thinking about Hulkling and how his parentage would go here and my mind wandered to some crazier ideas.
Maybe he is a genetically grown in a vat Kree/Skrull hybrid, maybe Carol is his mother or at least had her DNA implemented in his creation.
Its fun to think about.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."

Turns out there's a fair bit of Doctor Strange content in No Way Home that implies stuff for Multiverse of Madness. Should that stuff be discussed only in the no way home page for now as it's Spider-Man spoilers, or should it be discussed in a Doctor Strange thread?
