Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Its the difference between say King in Black or Devil's Reign which is the culmination of an entire run and character's epic story and arcs.
Vs Heroes Reborn where its a random-ass thing happening out of nowhere that has little to no ramifications or importance aside from putting to rest an ignored plotline everyone's forgotten about because they never did anything with them.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Events cause a temporary spike but usually cause the sales on books that tie in to drop
Presumably because people that were reading the book before the event drop it out of frustration of the story getting hijacked into another story. And people that read for the event don’t stick around
Which seems like chasing short term gain at the expense of the long term audience but what do I know.
I actually feel like Heroes Reborn was a decent event. For one, it didn’t interrupt any other books
It’s an Avengers event that only impacts the Avengers book.
If only more events were that polite

Forever liveblogging the AvengersNot just but that was something Marvel started doing in I wanna say the late 80s

That is indeed nice though its not an uncommon opinion for the story to be regarded as kind of a waste of time. The way the story unfolds doesn't help with that.
Ya know actually having the Ultimates book, I rather like at least from a plot and art perspective.
Like the characters are just fucking terrible barring Thor and Tony but the actual and spectacle is pretty fun. Ultimates 2 is one of my favorite books overall because it prolly has one of the best escalations I've seen in a story.
Mark Millar actually does have talent when he's not being edgy.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."We actually have a full list of all the Marvel event comics.
Looking at that list, it's only around the mid-2000s that Marvel really went into overdrive with their event comics, with them happening pretty much annually. And then later, multiple events happening in the same year.
Ultimates 2 where Hawkeye kills people with fingernails isn’t edgy?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMy second thought is that this weirdly would be a case where those giant honkin turbine like manacles often seen in the 90s would be fully prudent
Forever liveblogging the AvengersTo stay on the topic of movies, the Ultimates was adapted into an animated movie Ultimate Avengers. It used the comics general storyline and designs while also utilizing the normally heroic characterizations of the characters so Hulk isn't a cannibal, Cap's not a jarhead, and Hank isn't a wifebeater.
Its also where this famous fight scene where Hulk battles the Avengers comes from.
It had a sequel but sadly it was just a rehash of the first movie but with Black Panther involved instead of adapting any of the Ultimates 2 storylines.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Having not read too many comics myself, I'm very curious what the MCU is going to do with their take on Secret Invasion. From what I understand, it's apparently something that's planned to be smaller in scale than the original comic event, with a general theme about paranoia. I kinda hope it'll introduce both good and evil Skrulls, so as to make the group more enigmatic, but similar to us humans in that we have good and bad eggs.
Also kinda curious about who Emilia Clarke could be playing. Gotta wonder if she'll be a human, a Skrull, or something else entirely.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."With a face like Emilia's
◊, I'd think she'd be a human or a Skrull who primarily spends time in a human disguise.
Man, I always felt like Bradley Cooper doesn't get enough credit for the voice of Rocket. Maybe I'm biased because I watched Alias as a kid, but it always feels like Sean Gunn is always in group photos because he's both Rocket's on-set performer and Kraglin, whereas Cooper never seems to hang out with any of his Guardians castmates...

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."

Its a shorthand spike.
Its mostly guys like speculators buying up all the books and once the event ends it drops back to where it once was.
Marvel's obsession with events is very short-sighted.
