Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah, and I loved it, but honestly, Frank had the most conclusive Arc of them all. I mean sure, theoretically you could make a 3rd Season, but as it is, it's a very self-contained series with no open plot threads whatsoever.
Given that he got his own series in the first place, and a second Season to boot, I don't think that this Statement is accurate.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI haven't watched any of the Netflix shows period. I have seen clips from Daredevil and Jessica Jones, but I never watched the whole show because I didn't know if it was worth committing to.
And let me clarify, I do like the Dark Knight Trilogy, and I understand that we wouldn't have gotten comic-book movies into the mainstream as easily if it wasn't for that trilogy. I just think that Marvel Entertainment subscribing to a similar format the trilogy had did seem to limit the Netflix shows overall.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."
From what I've seen of Jessica Jones, I'm inclined to agree.
Though speaking of Kilgrave, that does make me wonder how Marvel is going to handle Eros in the MCU going forward. From what I understand, he has very similar powers to Kilgrave, except apparently he's supposed to be a good guy? And that the character himself hasn't aged all that well?
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Then let me rephrase: most casual viewers of MCU properties.
The Netflix shows seem to have largely faded into distant memory beyond Daredevil, nowadays the Marvel Netflix era is looked at with mixed feelings of derision and some praise (a lot of hate towards Iron Fist and the Defenders). I almost never see anyone bring up the Punisher series beyond the one gif of Frank freaking out during a nightmare about his family being killed, though. Which is weird because the Punisher is a VERY popular character, yet I almost never see people bring the Netflix series up when discussing him or Marvel Netflix in general.
How about making Eros Asexual? Or that would bring Unfortunate Implications I'm unaware of?
In the comics he eventually gave up those powers
So an adapted him doesn’t really need them. He’s already a flying brick without
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBeing someone who loves spoilers, the end credit scene is the only thing I've watched of Eternals so far, but I found Eros to be very charming in his brief cameo. And I say that as someone who has previously said that the character shouldn't appear in the MCU.
Of course, rapists can be charming, but he came across as really likable and sort of... noble I guess, in the way Thor is. Whereas his comic version is kind of a creep in how he comes across, right?
So, I wouldn't be that warry of Unfortunate Implications in his characterization.
Incidentally, Pip the Troll has also been somewhat rapey at times in the comics, but again, from his brief appearance, I wouldn't be too worried about him in the MCU.

I know nothing about Eros except for the fact that he's Thanos' brother, and he's a heroic character. Ditto for Pip the Troll, who I know even less about.
Hell, I only learned about the date rape part of the character from this
Twitter thread.
His comic self was written as charming too
The She Hulk arc about Starfox is more an in universe fridge horror thing. Man has super charm powers with no visual indicator when he is or isn’t using them. And is also charming in and of himself without using the powers that it’s hard to know if he is using them or not
I can’t speak of all of his appearances but in his first stint with the Avengers he never used his powers socially. He and She Hulk slept together but that was She Hulk at her horniest. He mostly uses the power on people he’s fighting to make them too giddy to want to fight.
I’m pretty sure the end of said She Hulk arc revealed that he’d never used his powers inappropriately but the whole experience made him ask for the super charm powers to be removed because he’d come to realize that they were super sketchy
Because a power copying android power copied him and inadvertently fucked up She Hulk’s life by making her and John Jameson fall obsessively in love with each other
And learning about that made Starfox go “oof”

I didn't know he had the powers taken away.
I knew that the She Hulk arc ended with him not actually being guilty of anything though.
I imagine it doesn't matter. The idea of him as the Date Rape hero stuck.
Once you open a Pandora's Box like that, nothing ever closes it, especially if aren't keeping regular track of things in the comics.
It's one of those things that just instantly becomes a meme unfortunately.
One Strip! One Strip!

With Moon Knight on the other hand, it's more ambiguous.
