Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm pretty sure Phastos contributed exactly 0 to nuclear physics development.
It's clear in the movie that, while he wants to do more for the creatures they were sent to protect, he still works within the limits Ajak set, and they explicitly don't involve themselves in human conflicts.
No, humans developed the bomb all on their own, and what Phastos hates is that his direct involvement in their development early on lead to the horror unleashed in WW2.

So apparently Sony has 3 more movies
with Tom Holland and Marvel Studios lined up.
This should be interesting.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."
Sure. *pays rent* Just so you know, I had to beat an old lady with a stick to get this.
So I just noticed something. Thor was able to defeat Hela by destroying Asgard, because Asgard is the source of her power. When Surtur destroyed the city, Hela's power was broken and Surtur was able to kill her too.
I'm watching Thor: Ragnarok right now and Valkyrie said something very interesting in the scene where Thor attempts to recruit her. Hela's power comes from Asgard "same as yours," she says to Thor.
Whatever aspect of Asgard provides Hela with her Goddess of Death abilities also provides Thor's God of Thunder abilities. That's why he needed Stormbreaker in Infinity War. The destruction of Asgard stripped Thor of his power, just the same as it did to Hela. Stormbreaker and Mjolnir act as independent generators for Thor's godly abilities.

If true it would also help explain why party Thor had such a great showing against Carol

You mean in What If??
He did do surprisingly well, despite the fact that he should arguably be weaker since he's only using Mjolnir. Even with Carol claiming she had to hold back and all, I'd think she'd still take that fight a little better.
One Strip! One Strip! He was rocking the massive heir of Asgard buff and didn’t even know
Forever liveblogging the AvengersLoki, meanwhile, has to settle for learning magic from Frigga. Because, as an adopted Jotun, he is not eligible to receive cool god powers from Asgard itself.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. In the comics, Frigga is from Vanaheim
Which is populated by weirdo shamans and druid types

Forever liveblogging the AvengersFrigga and Loki's abilities are magic. They've been referred to as such since even back in the first Loki film, when the MCU was otherwise downplaying magic. Those two are practicing sorcerers.
