Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

In hindsight Tony never really did grapple that Ultron was a dark mirror of himself. All of Ultron's instabilities, his mannerisms, his beliefs, all inherited from him because Ultron was effectively his son.
But he never really undergoes the appropriate shock and horror at the realization that he's literally fighting an insane version of himself. Unlike Hank Pym who is deeply ashamed that Ultron was the byproduct of everything wrong with him as a person and magnified by a thousand, Tony is never shown caring much.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It did take the comics a while to get around to the horror and etc because Hank had a whopping case of amnesia about even creating Ultron.
And even when he remembered that he did, it took another long while before he revealed that it was his brain patterns that made Ultron what he was.
Ultron is a lot of Ultron to blow in one movie honestly. He ramps up and just gets worse and worse.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI've been reading Bocaj's Avengers blog. Ultron's multitiered introduction was a lot of fun. Ultron having a giant flying engine instead of legs that one time was particularly goofy and fun.
Said blog is also the only reason I recognize one of the characters in Hawkeye.

I definatly want a soap opera-y feel mini series for each of the avengers rosters that's just really examining the interpersonal relationships of these characters.
Trouble with prequals is you struggle to introduce supervillains, but I wouldn't mind that if the primary focus was the cast of protagonists.
Maaaaybe you could additional appearances from established not-dead supervillains. Abomination, Justin Hammer, Batroc, Crossbones prior to his death would be the easiest, The Leader and Zola maybe. You could probably even get some extra Ultron content if you're willing to establish that Vision didn't kill him.
Eh I'm theory crafting about hypothetical projects that are never goig to happen.
Be careful on the internet people. There are images of The Marvels movie set photos floating around.

To be honest, I always kept imagining another universe where Joss Whedon ended up directing an Avengers TV show with all six original cast members rather than making two movies. I always felt like the first movie and Age of Ultron felt like TV adaptations compressed into movies instead, and it would just be interesting to see how it would work out.
Maybe some of the theorycrafting ideas you came up with would've had a chance to thrive in something like that.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Even if T'challa was a member of the mighty Avengers he was likely only a reserve member given that hes busy being king. He definatly didn't live in Avengers compound. His occasional presence would make the Mighty Avengers looks more like a team than just Tony's supporting cast.
I might draft an outline of a fan fic just to fill in the gaps of avenger times.
I'm curious as to how T'Challa would've interacted with other heroes in a casual setting. We already know he's friendly with Steve and Bucky, was briefly antagonistic to Natasha and somewhat aloof with Tony.
I'd at least like to imagine that he'd be wary of Scott after he nearly kicked him as Giant-Man.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."So I started with "why didn't Fury call Captain Marvel?"
But now it's "why didn't the Eternals stop Thanos?"
Which actually got answered in the movie, but whether I accept that answer or not is another matter.
And how does the rest of the universe feel now that The Eternals are just "watching us grow like little baby chicks they pushed along."
Do Stark and Shuri's accomplishments matter less now that Phastos was just god of tech giving mankind hints the whole time?
Could you imagine if Icarus actually went to Avengers HQ to throw his weight around?
How did The Avengers not detect anything The Eternals were doing in the past decade or more. Were they really that low-profile? Not Christopher-Mintz Plasse's character seemed to be running a cult. Actor dude was hiding his immortality by being his own descendants and starring in movies.
Did nobody know or care about the actual Ten Rings.

I took it as, by that point, he was running everything from the shadows, not really caring about fights between the countries he's secretly controlling as long as it doesn't threaten him. You don't intervene when ants are fighting in your yard, after all. Being immortal would naturally lead him to not care much about people in general, knowing they're going to die in a relatively short time regardless.

It's answered in the movie.
The Eternals were doing literally nothing for centuries until the Deviants trapped in that glacier thawed like a week ago.
Also, why would Shuri or Stark (who can't even what with having a terminal case of deceased) care about them nudging humanity in the distant past?
Their accomplishments today are their own.

For the most part, I do agree that what the Eternals did to help humanity is mostly unconnected to the main MCU events as a whole.
But I am curious about how much Phastos was involved with World War II outside of the creation of the atomic bomb. Considering that World War II is a very big event for the MCU at large, it's kind of curious how an Eternal shaped at least some parts of the war while Steve and the Howling Commandos were busy fighting HYDRA in Europe.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."![]()
Phastos evidentially was involved in the development of nuclear physics but it didn't seem like he was involved with the Manhattan Project considering that the project was intended to build a weapon that could destroy the Axis Powers in a single strike. Phastos would know about the dangers of radiation and its destructive capacity long before any of the scientists would.
I think he was caught off-guard by the rise of the Nazis in what is supposed to be the central nation for culture and science.

Yeah, I don't even think Pietro is mentioned in Civil War.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my Tumblr
