Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

No, Carnage and Venom in that cartoon were the servants of an ancient Symbiote Hive Mind.
Again, comics Carnage would end up following a similar route since the aforementioned dark god was also the Symbiote god.
...Yeesh, were the writers behind that whole storyline fans of these cartoons?

Disgusted, but not surprisedAdaptations influence the comics heavily. Not only because of the comics changing to match the latest hit, but also because the new writers were kids too once upon a time.
Notably, Brian Michael Bendis depicted Carnage as being capable of sucking out people's life energy over a decade before this storyline existed.
And he did that twice. Once with Ultimate Carnage and once with the616 version. He was pretty convinced that draining life energy is a thing Carnage does.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Though in this case the comics which have no problem showing people getting murdered.
Amusingly Bendis killed off Carnage for a time by having Sentry literally tear him in half and leaving him for dead in the upper atmosphere.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Being an animated kids show in the Nineties it had to make some sacrifices.
For one thing, if you just watched that show you'd have no idea that Venom ate brains and/or chocolate.
One thing the show did right over the comics was portray Electro as every bit as powerful as you'd expect someone who can manipulate electricity to the extent he can really is. While he's a loser in the comics he was a world threatening Physical God in the cartoon.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThe Klyntar have a craving for a certain chemical that can only be found in brains and chocolate.
Amusingly in the comics while most Venom hosts avoided becoming a cannibal, Mac Gargan/Scorpion was not so fortunate, having embraced the hunger fully and becoming a full on people eater during his tenure as Venom in the Dark Avengers.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Most Venoms tend to be collaborations between host and symbiote, but Gargan was basically unrestrained symbiote id with a dim-witted thug along for the ride.
Eddie Brock and Flash Thompson were partners to the symbiote, but Mac Gargan was really just a host.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. They got a bit clever with it, iirc. Goblin threw MJ into a portal, but Spidey didn't see the portal, so he assumes she drowned and/or was swept away by the Hudson.
Later, Goblin's Time Dilation Accelerator (portal gun) malfunctions, opening an unstable portal that goes nowhere which he gets knocked through, which is treated as equivalent to dying... before Spider-Man can get answers. As a result, Peter doesn't find out that MJ is still alive until - like - the very last scene of the show.
He does get to have a clone MJ for a while, but she dies right in front of him because Peter Parker's life has to suck.

Looks like
Spider-Man: No Way Home is getting released in the UK, two days before the US.
Christopher Daniel Barnes really put 200% in this show.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."If I remember correctly the second No Way Home trailer premiers tomorrow at some theater which means I will need to be careful of spoilers.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread

Comics Carnage would eventually take a similar route with a different superpowered dark god, but back then he was "just" a Serial Killer.
Disgusted, but not surprised
