Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It is the last time an adaptation tried to be super accurate.
Later ones would take a lot more liberties.
Like, it's not only the only good adaptation of the Phoenix Saga, it's the only one that tries to really recreate the original story as much as possible.
One Strip! One Strip! One of my favorite things about X-Men Animated (and Spider-Man Animated by extension, since they share an art style) is how everyone in those shows (except, like, Jubilee) were super jacked.
Even Dr. Octopus was build like a freakin' bodybuilder.

The X-Men didn't register with me as much, but Spider-Man's "everybody is ripped" artstyle was just very funny. One of the most comically absurd examples was Alistair Smythe, the show's resident paraplegic genius who acted as the gadgeteer for the Kingpin (and occasionally other villains). Later in the show the Kingpin subjects Alistair to a bath into a chemical substance that mutates him into the Ultimate Spider Slayer, so we get to see Alistair Smythe in his underwear.
Somehow, this scrawny nerd who's shown 24/7 in a hoverchair out and about in a lab, is built like a brick shithouse. Including his legs being toned like he's a olympic track runner (despite the fact he's, well, unable to walk).

"All you Fascists bound to lose."I am of the belief that we should move forward and try new things. Which is a reason nostalgia annoys me cause its used as an excuse to back tread and do the same shit over and over again.
But hey at least we getting nostalgic over the 90s now. Prolly get sick of it soon too but at least its not the 80s, fuck the 80s.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I wouldn't really hold my breath on them connecting to Mo M.
You and I remember Budapest very differentlyIt's really not that complex. Larry Houston met with Disney about two years ago, bringing up the idea of bringing the show back in some form. Then as production on What If? was wrapping up, Marvel was considering what to do next for their animated projects.
The X-Men animated series was something many people who pitched ideas at Marvel brought up as something that had influenced them in the past, so it probably seemed like a natural idea.
I am looking forward to the revival, though I personally would have liked to see Evolution come back as that was my personal favorite X-Men cartoon. Still the 90s show was great, but I think it might have been a little to 90s to translate fully to today.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread@Slimcoder Black Cat did receive the Super Serum that created Captain America so she does at least have an in-universe reason for that.
Heck, Landon claimed that he had improved the Super Serum, meaning it may have given Felicia outright superhuman abilities as opposed to "just" Captain America's "peak human" status.
Disgusted, but not surprisedThis only applies to that specific adaptation of Black Cat. 616 comics Black Cat otoh currently has probability manipulation powers that allow her to give other people bad luck (hence the whole "Black Cat" identity).
The Nineties animated version goes by Black Cat due to adopting the identity of her father who was a notorious master thief called The Cat. At a low point in her life she also called herself a black cat due to how misfortune kept hitting everyone around her.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI tried to get into X-Men comics after growing up on the animated series. I could never get into it. These characters I thought I liked were nothing like their cartoon counterparts. I'm not going to say these guys in the comics were worse (except Beast, he's worse), but they were different enough that I didnt feel any real connection to the comic characters.
There are a few comic mutant characters that I've since attached to, but for the most part I still dont find the X-Men comics all that appealing.

I just can't take these 90s Marvel Cartoons seriously, with their corny dialogues and voice acting, over-the-top censhorship and partially downright crappy animation.
And it's not a 'Well, back then things just were like that!' Situation either - just look at Bruce Timm's DC animation from the very same era.
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianImpressively said Spider-Man show had Carnage and no not mindless inhuman monster Carnage like Ultimate Spider-Man but Cletus fucking Kasady.
Like he was obviously censored so there was no gore but the insane temperament and general bloodlust was kept entirely in. He's clearly a Goddamn serial killer here.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I could never get into the 90's shows because everyone talks like a Motor Mouth.
The legend has returned.
4x If anything, Carnage in that show was worse than the comics. Not only was he introduced as a Mad Bomber, but he stole people's souls and fed them to Dormammu. They took a guy who was merely a superpowered serial killer in the comics and made him Yami Marik.

I have the idea that they wanted to do a major X project and didn't want to wait for the MCU but they were unsure of what new thing to do so they just settled on reviving a past project.
And settled on the 90's show cause its the biggest X-property I guess.
