Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It should be noted that even if Carrey is cast as MODOK, he could still play him relatively seriously and not have to do his regular shtick. He can and has done dramatic roles before, notably Truman.
Though seeing how well he managed to balance his regular Carrey-ness while still recognizably being Dr. Robotnik means he could do it here as well, so who knows?

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI'm not sure if I want Jim Carrey in a Marvel movie. I'm not sure why, but I just feel like it would be...weird...if he joined that franchise.
Honestly, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Bill Murray is in Quantumania.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Jim Carrey has expressed notorious anti-vaxxer misinformation in the past.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."My star casting for Jim Carrey as a Marvel character has always been Cletus Kasady. He's one of few actors I can think of who I believe could really pull off Kasady's unhinged manic energy.
But that ship's sailed.
What's this about Carrey being an anti-vaxxer? I don't disbelieve it, it's just news to me.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Jim Carry is such the perfect Cletus Kassidy that I kept thinking he was cast despite it being a completely different guy
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAaron Taylor-Johnson is going to star as Kraven in one of Sony's movies. Gotta wonder who made that casting choice...
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Kraven is always a slightly more off-the-wall sort to cast because his Rated M for Manly features are very core to the character at the same time he also requires some fairly strong chops. He's tall, ripped, with mighty facial hair and features of a grizzled, Hemingway-esque big game hunter. At the same time he's also a deeply poetic (often literally, what with his habit of quoting erudite poetry like the famous use of William Blake's "Tyger, Tyger") and intellectual character who requires some strong acting chops to really come through, so you can't just cast a bodybuilder as him. At the same time, again, his Testosterone Poisoning traits are key to his character (indeed they're one of the central points of Kraven's Last Hunt, with Kraven's toxic masculinity leading him to self-destruction while Pete is more healthy) so he needs that appearance. On top of everything, Kraven's status as a Husky Russkie is also one of the cornerstones of his character, so you also need to factor that into account while trying to make sure he doesn't come across as a caricature of himself (e.g with a cartoonish fake russian ;accent).
Aaron-Taylor Johnson, for example, feels odd because he has very soft, boyish features (and a relativley soft voice, which is noticeable if you key to the fact adaptations of Kraven have pretty universally shown him speaking in a deep baritone) which go at odds with the "grizzled, manly hunter" characterization (and he's also not from eastern-europe, though he keeps playing slavs with questionable accents). He's a very talented actor so he might overcome these hills but it's just a strange choice to begin with considering what we know of Kraven the Hunter.
He's the type of character who you could more easily imagine someone like David Harbour playing (ironically cast as another Husky Russkie already): physically imposing actor with a Badass Baritone and rougher, traditionally "manly" features.
Ideally, I'd want to see someone who's actually goddamn Russian (or at least from eastern-europe) as Kraven. Like Yuri Kolokolnikov (most recently seen in TENET as one of the main villains) or Oleg Taktarov (from Predators).

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Kraven's case is one of the most notorious because him being former Russian aristocracy attached to (his own reading of) aristocratic russian tradition is aproximatedly 50% of his character since KLH redefined the character.
It's going to get pretty silly to hear Aaron-Taylor Johnson with a fake russian accent talking about his deep ties to his homeland of modern russia and how modernity has corrupted the proud, aristocratic soul of his home before quoting Dostoyevsky in russian very badly because he can't speak the language at all (I'm presuming).

"All you Fascists bound to lose."She wasn't (according to the theory/rumour.) She was only bought in to play the General's daughter/Taskmaster once they decided to go that route. This could partly explain why she gets very little to actually say/do if it was a late decision.

"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."New set photos
of Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman on the set of Thor: Love and Thunder.

He is very ugly, indeed with that oversized wrinkly face and stubby-ass limbs.
I always found him hard to look at.
