Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

If John Boyega does end up becoming Nova, I'm gonna be surprised. Both him and Oscar Issac have expressed so much disdain for Disney after Star Wars' Sequel Trilogy, so I wouldn't blame Boyega for passing on anything Marvel related. Hell, I'm surprised that not only did Isaac accept the role of Moon Knight after his bad experiences being both Poe Dameron and Apocalypse, but that he's actually having fun with it based on what he's been saying online thus far.
I know some people may complain about a lack of creative control within Marvel Studios, but Isaac's experiences with them compared to Fox and Lucasfilm make me curious.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."In spite of my bad inlkings about Chris Pratt the person, I would like to see Quill get more character development/return to having character development and have that kind of friendship.
That being said, in light of the Eternals post credit spoiler about Eros/Starfox and Pip, I wonder if there's going to be a new generation of Guardians, just like there is for the Avengers. And Nova will be a member of that team along with other new characters. And maybe Mantis will stick around.
Also, in connection with the spoiler, I'm also wondering about what the next movie will do with (not sure this needs to be spoiled) Adam Warlock, because all three new characters are closely connected with Thanos and/or the Infinity Stones.
I don't know how likely it is, but I wonder if there will be some mumbojumbo that recreates the Stones and also allows for the deceased Gamora to merge with the living one. Don't think it's too likely that Thanos will be back, but like every other comic character, he has come back from the dead several times in the comics.

It could certainly be a role to make up for his poor treatment as Finn.
Nova from you read about him is a one-man army badass who is one of the biggest characters in cosmic Marvel, having an integral role in several beloved events like Annihilation and The Thanos Imperative.
Certainly sounds like a step up from Finn.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."When you put Michaela Russell (Young Wanda) in a Scarlet Witch costume
for Halloween, she looks so cute and you can even see the resemblance to Elizabeth Olsen.
So...would Boyega be Richard Ryder then?
Or would they create another new Nova character like they did with Sam Alexander (mainly to avoid the bad jokes about Rich's name)?
One Strip! One Strip! That be pretty unnecessary. I mean it’s not like they created entire new characters with the Eternals for the ones who got gender/racelifted.
Makkari in the comics wasn’t a deaf black woman but she is in the movie and she’s still called Makkari.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."If Nova is introduced, I hope they play a song from VNV Nation in his movie/show. They have that kind of "mystical space journey" electronic feel to them.
Also, unrelated question, but one I have to wonder about in regards to What If. From a Watsonian perspective, who is Uatu narrating to? What is the purpose of his speaking aloud?

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."It does make one curious whats the next step for the cosmic setting. Now that Thanos is gone there is no longer a Frieza looming the universe so now they can bring in whatever threat they want.
We got the Captain Marvel movie which deals with the Kree/Skrull conflict, Guardians 3 which will prolly deal with the golden skin aliens, and I guess technically Secret Invasion since it deals with Skrulls and potentially Thor 4 if its setting is also cosmic.
Plus we got Fantastic Four coming and that will inevitably lead to the arrival of Galactus and the Silver Surfer.

I don't think there is a Watsonian explanation; he's meant to be speaking directly to us, the veiwers.
It's sorta like how Deadpool works; his fourth wall breaks are an actual, In-Universe thing the other characters occasionally react to, where in any other work it's an implicitly non-canon thing that nobody else notices.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks Marathon
I imagine the realization that Deadpool could see and hear him would give him terror flashbacks to infinity Ultron....at least at first.
Yeah, Sam does seem to have taken Rich's place as the Earth Based Nova, which makes sense since The Champions more or less seem to be a modern day New Warriors....which makes the utter debacle that was Outlawed only more frustrating, as I'd have liked to see how the two group bounce off each other what with the Warriors basically being to the Champions what previous teams like the Avengers were to them.
Instead we got internet gas and some bullshit, and the whole thing died brutally before it could even begin.
One Strip! One Strip!I actually kinda wish they had stuck to their guns and not used Covid as an excuse to quietly shove that under the rug, just so we could see for ourselves how bad it actually got.
At the very least, it'd give Linkara some review fodder down the line or something.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonIts kinda funny for Sam since his ongoing I believe did feature space adventures for him.
But when Rider came back he comfortably fitted right into his space adventures like nothing's happened while Sam is exclusive to Earth now barring the occasional Champion adventure that sends them to space.
Plus the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon did have him as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, at least a protégé.
Man Night Thrasher's costume was so cool in the promos we've seen.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I think we can safely say that Sam Alexander is pretty deeply unpopular, easily the least successful of Marvel's recent attempts at Affirmative-Action Legacy, though he's not hated enough to qualify as a Scrappy. So Marvel brought Ryder back and gave him all of the actual Nova stuff while Sam's been pretty much reduced to just being a Champions mainstay.
So like, there's a non-zero chance the MCU just skips Sam entirely, though I'd imagine they'd grab a younger Ryder to compensate. Even then, I'll be honest I don't how much I vibe with Boyega as Ryder/Nova. Not that he'd be bad, far from it, just feels like Boyega could've easily fit a bigger sort of role.
I wonder how Nova and The Marvels are going to cover the cosmic side of the MCU. Most of the MCU's installments that take place in space tend to lean more towards goofy stuff, with GOTG and Ragnarok in particular being explicit throwbacks to seventies and/or eighties culture. Will there be some more serious films that take place in the cosmos, or will it still be wacky and zany for the most part?
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."

Huh so there are rumors that a Nova movie is possibly in development and at least one of John Boyega possibly being eyed.
So thats fun to think about.
Either him or Adam Warlock could potentially be Quill's bromigo.
