Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I think much of the (fair) surprise around Zhao was because she made her mark for intimate films with non-actors and Eternals is...the opposite of that. Bigger jump from, say, Creed to Black Panther.
At the very least I haven't seen any indication that the cast was a problem. I was hoping not given Zhao's skill with non-actors but y'know.
As for the intimacy point, what's fascinating is how different a lot of the takes are. I've legit seen positive reviews praise it for being emotionally intimate and negative reviews criticize it for being emotionally detached. It honestly feels like people are watching different movies, the way some of the critiques diverge.
I'm not keeping up with the incoming reviews so I don't know the context of those opinions but honestly 'emotionally intimate yet detached at the same time' seems possible for a movie about alien middle management.
Which, y'know, inflammatory internet stuff, whatever, but also wrong in the sense that, like, clearly the MCU is trying to mix things up. Like, the biggest thing I'm seeing from the Eternals critical response, the thing that still has me hype for it, is that it by and large does feel like a Zhao film, for better and for worse.
I feel like I've seen this discourse tie into the complaints about the fight scenes in MCU movies too.
The cult of owo and uwu has infected even Marvel! We are doomed!
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Okay, outside of the jokes about how stupid the font looks, I do like how the OOOOOO looks much like the design of the intersecting timelines we saw after Sylvie destroyed the Sacred Timeline. And since Kang is the Big Bad, it makes sense as well.
But...why does it have to be so damn hard to read yo
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."That Quantumania logo is hilarious. Not since X Æ A-12 has the internet been united in dunking on a stream of squiggles.
Theory food: Spider-Man: No Way Home Saw Tom Holland Film One Of His ‘Coolest Scenes Ever’ With Mystery Character – Exclusive
Clearly it is just a doppelganger/alternate version of Peter Parker played by Holland.
