Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

He's not in yet, but he will be soon.
Pretty sure it's for budgetary/CGI-will-make-this-power-look-really-janky reasons. As long as the comics aren't forced to Be Like The Movies (or well, TV Show in this case), I can deal with it. With mild grumbling. It's a decent enough way to work around how Uncanny Valley limb stretching/enlarging powers can look in live-action.

When we're done, there won't be anything left.I get why they changed it. I saw Fantastic Four (2015) and Reed's powers were incredibly Uncanny Valley. Also Squick.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my Tumblr
x2 A leak, according to Akirakan.

I assure you, I'm perfectly trustable personEven in the comics the stretching powers can look kind of weird. The Maker, an evil alternate universe Reed Richards, takes this to Humanoid Abomination levels since he's already given up the pretense of humanity.
Disgusted, but not surprisedBudgetary reasons makes the most sense but it's also kinda infuriating tbh. One because it validates the kind of "have to paint a bodybuilder green" crap takes as if Disney doesn't have all the money, two because it means the main reason why she's getting her powers so drastically changed is because they just so happened to decide to not give her a movie.
Huh it’s prolly also a way to more unify or relate her with Carol and Monica. Since both of them have energy based powers they maybe thought that Kamala should too especially since she’s set to star alongside them in Captain Marvel 2.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie." Funny, I remember that one of the plans for that reboot
was to emphasize on the body horror of the team's incident and powers. Seeing as the final film also emphasizes Ben, Johnny and Sue's situations in a similar way, that might have been intentional.
Admittedly, I'm also a little confused on possible budgetary concern. Barring any concerns about the Uncanny Valley, Arrowverse managed to adapt the Enlongated Man decent enough on much cheaper budgets.
I will say the one place where the change might weaken her story is an early subplot centers around Kamala transforming herself to look exactly like Carol Danvers, reflecting the cultural status quo of majority white superheroes until Kamala manages to grow past her insecurity about her own body. Who knows if that’s still doable or not with these projection powers.
In light of the recent book that came out about the story of Marvel Studios, it's interesting to read that for Captain America: Civil War, the Marvel Creative Committee actually wanted the Avengers to reunite for the final showdown against Zemo and the Winter Soldiers, but the Russos plus Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely disagreed.
My thought on the matter is that while the committee's proposed ending would've made Civil War more effectively Avengers 3 than a Captain America film, it also would've been a slightly less anti-climactic way to end the storyline with the other Winter Soldiers than "Zemo shot them all dead in cryo". Having the characters coming together at the end, and fighting the Winter Soldiers would also maybe have been a decent way to integrate Scott, T'Challa, and Peter into the team. Also, an ending where everyone overcomes their differences and proves Zemo wrong (because that's what heroes are supposed to do) would still have emotional weight. The message that love and friendship save the day would have been particularly poignant considering that it's Zemo's loss of his family that drove him down this path of vengeance.
As a bonus, there probably wouldn't be the amount of polarizing discourse on social media we have here where people are divided into "team Cap" and "team Iron Man" camps.

Okey Dokey!I'm really against changing the powers of the characters, it kinda sets a potentially ugly precedent. Its kinda a level above changing Taskmaster's powers from being a physical superpower to a vague ability apparently coming from her suit. I mean sure Wenwu's rings are different than they normally are and are pretty cool but not every case is like that.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'm cautiously optimistic. It looks like Khamala's powers work as usual, her embiggened body parts just loose their human skin tone when doing do. Which probably lessens the squick factor. It also still allows her to do her initial story arc of hiding her skin colour before overcoming it, by switching to embiggening her hands rather than applying the heu to her entire body.
Regarding Civil War "lets you and him fight" immediately followed by a team up to take out an actual super villain is so clichéd. I would have rolled my eyes so hard at that.
