Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

He has pheromone powers and he's a Casanova who likes to fuck so yes the ability to consent around him is very called into question. She-Hulk apparently once beat the crap out of him for it.
And he's Thanos's younger-brother. Yeah Mentor and Sui-San sure produced some terrific kids........

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'm very sure that if this is true, it will not be exactly the same when it makes it to the screen.
There's zero chance that Disney of all companies will have a character with super-roofie powers as a hero.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Or possibly he will indeed be a hero but with his powers altered accordingly - like, he is superhumanly charismatic or whatever but doesn't literally remove consent.

"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Hold on, adapting the character makes sense given that he's probably the second most famous Eternal character to Thanos, but how do you adapt him if Thanos and Titan are divorced from the Eternals in the MCU?
Are they going to reveal that there's not ten Eternals but actually one hundred? But that the other 90 are hidden away somewhere? Could work if you say the other 90 abandoned their cause and left Earth.
I think Eros's powers could be adapted to not be gross. Make him a love God, but one that respects consent really quite vocally

Two incidental things I've noticed about the release date shuffle:
First, for the three films coming in 2022, all three are coming out on weekends that carried MCU movies in 2017.
2017:
- May 5, 2017: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
- July 7, 2017: Spider-Man: Homecoming
- November 10, 2017: Thor: Ragnarok
2022:
- May 6, 2022: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
- July 8, 2022: Thor: Love and Thunder
- November 11, 2022: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Incidentally, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was originally meant to come out in May 2021 under the original schedule, so it was always intended to kick off the summer movie season. Meanwhile, Thor: Love and Thunder is coming out on the day that in 2017 was originally going to be the release date for Thor: Ragnarok before Spider-Man: Homecoming was slotted in. And the new date for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever incidentally falls just a few weeks short of what would've been Chadwick Boseman's 46th birthday.

Okey Dokey!Honestly ”charismatic playboy” is probably more in Styles’ wheelhouse than his role in Dunkirk, so it might work out. I don’t see the actor carrying a franchise, but a little stunt casting for minor roles never hurt anyone.
It’s about some secret Eternals casting news spilled by a Variety writer, if you are curious.

I'm trying hard to avoid the current spoiler wave (seriously surprised Disney's being chill with it, guessing Variety taking initiative forced their hand or something) but I did get a small glimpse when that Eternals leak was first floating around and it sounds in-line with that. So that's...very interesting, at the very least.
Kinda hard to talk more on it without giving up the cold turkey approach...though dammit we got two more weeks to cover. DX

In minor fairness, the She Hulk arc that posited Starfox as a creep because of his powers eventually absolves him as a dude that respects consent and he has those powers removed at the end of the arc to avoid ever misusing them.
The arc was more about lampshading how those powers could be misused then anything else and even in his initial run with the Avengers it gets brought up a couple times that his power was too close to mind control for the Avengers’ comfort once they learn about the power.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers Yeah. As far as I know, Eros has never actually used his powers for the darker implications people attribute to him. The closest we got was that She Hulk arc, and as
pointed out, he never even did it. Thanos even screwed with his memories to trick him into thinking he might have.
Eros has become better known for what people think he's capable of due to his powers than what he really is. The whole Date Rape hero has become so ubiquitous in regards to him that it has come to outweigh literally all other interpretations of him....because memes.
At least I hope he's never used it for what people think he could. I haven't read every single one of his appearances.
One Strip! One Strip!Ooo-wee, these spoiler blocks are vast, which bites for me because I've been sleeping on actually watching any MCU stuff no thanks to the pandemic and my not-having-Disney+.
Eternals must be more than just something. And the stingers are apparently something to look out for? I almost wonder if it really is where a certain set of offspring of a certain kind of particle are finally getting established here to some capacity.
Doesn't DC have a really popular show going around right now about a guy who has a magic aura of roofy that immediately infects everyone who meets him? Lucifer? That show's reception may have convinced Marvel that Starfox can work.
I don't actually know; I only saw one episode. I got as far as, "My presence compels people, men and women, to have sex with me. But you, Obvious Love Interest, you are different because you are NOT magically drawn to my desires!" And then I was like, okay, I think I'm good.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.

So apparently Harry Styles
might have been cast as Eros, brother of Thanos, in the aftercredits stinger for Eternals? The source is from a Variety writer, so it seems more legitimate than just a rumor...and not gonna lie, out of all the choices to play Eros, the guy from One Direction didn't even seem like it'd be a casting decision anyone expected? Either way, people on Twitter are going gaga over it.
