Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The change is probsbly because you can’t be a maverick if you’re the authority
Although Strange somehow finds a way by ignoring Wong’s warnings
(Then again Wong is doing cage fights for money so pobody’s nerfect)
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI mean, it's not like weird buildings don't exist, what are you gonna do about it? As long as they have the paperwork right nobody has any right to bother them about it.
And taxes? They probably don't outright magic up money, but with all those spells there's plenty of ways they could easily earn some.

Wong uses his fight money to pay the Sanctorum's taxes

Attachments are not the problem, Indifference is. Keelah se'laiThere was a Doctor Strange storyarc a few years back about a real estate company trying to buy the Sanctum Sanctorum to bulldoze it and build a luxury condo over it. The arc goes in some detail about the bizarre legalities of the Sanctum Sanctorum in NY and I don't recall the finer points of it, but to my reckoning it was something like the Sanctum Sanctorum is in a murky, nightmarish and eldritch amount of red tape as the Sanctum is basically geographically located in New York but also a nexus point for a multitude of transdimensional realms and thus it is classified, officially, as a magical foreign embassy of sorts (and embassies are usually exempt from property taxes).
This also means that past the door of the Sanctum Sanctorum, you're technically no longer subject to any NY (or indeed, US) laws as that's no longer their jurisdiction. So prosecuting Strange for anything he does within Sanctum grounds is nigh impossible.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."IIRC, sometimes in the comics the Sanctum has a spell over it where ordinary mortals can't see the building unless they already know where and what it is and are actively looking for it. Everyone else just sees some abandoned old hovel. It's also indicated that even if you meet those conditions, if Strange specifically doesn't want you to see it or enter, you can't. So if the IRS wanted to come and collect, there's nothing they could physically do about it unless he actually wanted to pay.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI'd hate to be the cop or federal agent who tried to serve a warrant on 177A Bleecker Street.
I do think that this is something Multiverse of Madness will be addressing. The Masters of the Mystic Arts are now very much in the public spotlight thanks to their work on the Battle of Upstate New York (given they were the ones who oversaw the opening of all those portals to bring the Asgardian, Wakandan, and Ravager forces to the battlefield), and their numbers appear to have been bolstered thanks to the Snap leaving many people turning to Kamar-Taj for answers. And couple that with what happened in Westview.
So something akin to how in Harry Potter, Muggles only see ruins when they look at Hogwarts, or see a store called Purge & Dowse when looking at St. Mungo's.

Okey Dokey!Didn't Strange wind up drop kicking the real estate developer onto the Moon?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBack on that subject, yeah, looks like Strange is just going to be cocky in No Way Home. I think his ego blew up a bit after his 14,000,605-to-1 plan to beat Thanos worked out.
That alone could be the source of some good friction between Strange and Wanda by Multiverse of Madness. And it could be something that further vindicates Mordo's beliefs.
Okey Dokey!Huh I just now got reminded, yeah hopefully Love and Thunder doesn't have another Thor gets out of his funk plot.
Because not only did we already have that in Endgame where Thor went through the absolute worst period of depression of his life as a result of failing and losing everything, it didn't actually make him unworthy and cause him to lose his powers.
It be really repetitive if we go through another movie where Thor has to find himself again.

Strange has always been cocky/arrogant (at least in his MCU version) - he's got better about it as he's developed as a character but to be the Sorcerer Supreme you have to have a very high level of self confidence which on a bad day becomes a flaw as well as a strength.
Tons of movies are getting delayed.

Okey Dokey!I'm willing to bet it's because of IATSE as well. A lot of people aren't happy that the supposed "new" deal mostly consists of repackaged old agreements with only a few better conditions sprinkled in. Thus, it seems likely that the strike might still happen. The delays seen here were probably made out of panic because of that.
