Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Agreed, and I don't know who changed it or why, but it's a pain in the ass. We don't do that for other long-running franchises with multiple entries, and for the kinds of WCHB's that would affect entire franchises as opposed to single works, we can just put that on the general Marvel Cinematic Universe Trivia page. I'd like to push for undoing that, honestly.
Well, it's still listed as a Trivia trope, and it does pertain to production details, which is what Trivia is for. Marvel Cinematic Universe is pretty active, though it's also populated with a lot of bloat and examples which could honestly better fit on their own work pages.
Yeah, there's little point in filling up entire movie catalogues of examples when we can just have general information for the franchise as a whole on that one page.
Like, the Other Assorted Trivia subsection and maybe stuff pertaining to future releases can stay there. But all the other examples for each movie in a phase just existing there and taking up space seems ridiculous imo.

I can start work on that later today if you want.

Yeah, like the other guy said, Hela was definitely a case of Vile Villain, Saccharine Show within the MCU. Everything else was nuts and laughable in Ragnarok, but Hela was definitely a threatening force. I do worry about Taika going a little too far with Thor's next adventure as well, but considering how well he directed Chapter 8 of The Mandalorian, I have faith he'll be able to do Love and Thunder with both zany comedy but still provide seriousness when needed.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Alright. Deep Serpent Assignment completed. I've moved all the specific What Could Have Been entries back to their proper places, and kept the general stuff and future projects on the main page.
Hopefully some higher-up doesn't get pissed off.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Love and Thunder looks to be a pretty complex due to juggling a lot of stuff. Gorr and Zeus, Jane becoming Jane-Thor and rekindling her relationship with Thor, and Valkyrie finding her own love. Its a lot.
Also here's some more Eternals knowledge.
Kingo in the comics is an actual weeb. No seriously he has such a fascination with Japanese culture that he actually dresses like a samurai and uses katanas, fighting like a ninja. Which makes it rather amusing that the movies have changed him into a gunslinger though it explains why he's a Bollywood singer as its an adaptation of his existing love of human culture.
Gilgamesh is known as the Forgotten One and is the most rebellious of the group. He takes the mission of the Eternals, protect the Earth into protecting devoutly the human race so he actively engages in vigilantism to combat evil humans. He also makes a point of being a hunter of his own kind, punishing/killing any Eternals harming humanity.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
I think it would be cool if Kingo was some sort of secret film executive for centuries who was responsible for getting billions of classic films on the big screen because he gave them the green light and was such a patron of the arts. Eventually he loves the movies so much he ends up giving up that job to become a celebrity or something. That would be cool.
I'm fairly sure Zeus will show up only in a Villain Opening Scene where Gorr the God-Butcher just tears a bloody path through the greek pantheon and establishes his street credt. Zeus will at best just be the dead man walking messenger who'll warn Asgar that Gorr is coming before expiring.
And then the opening credits roll.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Man, it'll be really awkward when Gorr has to go against Priapus
...
On a serious note, I don't have that much sense of how Waiti/the movie will handle Gorr, but I've noted that he is (appropriately) rather similar to Drago Bludvist from How to Train Your Dragon 2 - or (also appropriately) like Kratos.
Essentially, the character's backstory is the standard "badass action hero all of whose loved ones were stuffed in the fridge" - but as a bad guy instead of the expected hero. Of course, Drago and Gorr are antagonists and Kratos is the protagonist.
But I think it can be interesting to have a villain in what is usually a hero role as a way of showing how qualities like cleverness and strength aren't inherently moral. And it has worked with MCU villains like Killmonger, Zemo, and Vulture.
Edit - And I can see how Gorr is a natural foil to both Thor (has gone through a lot of trauma but remained worthy) and Jane (an ordinary person turned demigod).

Pfffft okay honestly it’s kind of a shame they adapted out Thanos’ backstory with the Eternals.
Cause I just love how Thanos is effectively the ultimately black sheep of the entire group, being their ETERNAL shame.
Especially in how he effectively ruined the lives of both his parents who due to their immortality have to forever live with the knowledge that they sired the worst being who ever existed in the universe all while being locked in an isolation prison cell upon the fear that they could produce another Thanos, willing or not.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."

Thanos is interesting since he's actually a hybrid of Eternal and Deviant due to a mutation. That's why he's more powerful than the average Titanian Eternal.
Disgusted, but not surprised
