Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Voodoo's age is fairly nebulous as far as I can tell, having him at around Boyega's own age for him "starting out" would be probably younger than he's traditionally portrayed but not remarkably so.
Edit after quick Google: In his first story Voodoo's just come back after graduation (as a psychologist? Or another specialist medical role at least) so Boyega will be 30-31 AT LEAST by the time this hypothetically could happen so I reckon it could work.
Edit edit: That is a fair point about the Haitian actor for the role mind you.

"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Most superheroes are generally depicted as being somewhere between 35-50, but their age is rarely stated due to how comic book time works.
Brie Larson was considered to be too young for Captain Marvel also, being younger than Boyega is now when she was cast.
That being said, it would be nice if Drumm was played by someone who is actually Haitian.
I mean, there are plenty of characters to Race Lift as well.

Y'know, I was just reading a fic
with Brother Voodoo making an appearance.
I could see him being portrayed by Jamie Hector or Treva Etienne.

Okey Dokey!I also think the point is valid that you'd want somebody Haitian to portray Vodoo.
I still remember that there was some controversy about no real Jamaicans being cast in Luke Cage Season 2.

Still though a fun concept especially since it’s a team of the strongest and smartest beings on the planet comprised primarily of dark-skinned people with Carol as the only white person.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Ironically, the most prominent black british (like John Boyega) character in Marvel is Blade (born in Soho, London), and he has never been really portrayed as British, with both Wesley Snipes and Mahershala Ali being american (and both presumably using their natural accents). It's in fact pretty rare for anyone to remember he is in fact British (even in the comics, he has been consistently portrayed as speaking in american ebonics).

Its because Blade has until the films and even after always been more of a supporting character for Dracula in The Tomb of Dracula or parts of supernatural teams in the comics.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."To my recollection, yes, he's still British in the comics. It's just no one particularly cares. Even in his debut in Tomb of Dracula Blade spoke in (what could be interprete as) 70's american ebonics full of "Honky!", "cat", "ya dig?".
My impression has always been that Blade was made british in the comics solely because the British Isles are the stomping grounds of Bram Stoker's conception of vampires and Blade has always had his dealings with Dracula, the Van Helsings, the Harkers, Murrays, Sewards and Moriss of the world.
To my recollection, Blade is also another one whose origin remains in the same period of time because as a vampire (well, dhampyr), he doesn't age (or ages very slowly). So Blade is, chronologically, about 89 years old. Woner if they'll go with that in the MCU version.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Which is from the movies. In the comics, his dhampyrness (sorta) only gave him immunity to being turned. It wasn't until he got bitten by Jared Leto that he gained the movie powers (including healing and decreased aging).

Hop on over to this page and add them.Captain Britain & MI 13 made a point of Blade being British (by birth) but it was treated that he'd spent so much longer in America that his accent/cultural background was way more American than British anyway. It also played him up as having knowledge of/a mission against supernatural threats that WEREN'T Vampires, though they were still overwhelmingly his priority.
He's "officially" a Brit but essentially American in every other sense that counts.

"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Unrelated but I was recently on the worlds smartest man page and I noticed this bit
"In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for a long time Tony Stark held the honor of "smartest person" in the MCU. In recent years this has been challenged, however;Black Panther (2018) establishes T'Challa's sister, Shuri is at least on par with him, and The Wakanda Files has Shuri note that Hank Pym is perhaps more brilliant than any of them-to the point where she mildly idolizes him for the sophistication of his Pym Particles, which not even a team of Wakandas crack scientists can figure out."
Awwww Shuri is a huge fan of Hank, now I want them to meet.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."What I like about the MCU is that it genuinely seems like the various geniuses are less Omnidisciplinary Scientists and Hank, Bruce, Tony, and Shuri are all geniuses in different ways.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Don't forget Bill Foster a.k.a Goliath. So you have quite a roster there between Ant-Man, Wasp, Goliath, Blade and Captain America II. Surprisingly diverse too (actually more black members than white ones).
Red Guardian might have also been active during the 1970's, so you could add him as a Friendly Enemy who opposes the heroes but also helps them when greater evil arises.

John Boyega could be the fabled Brother Voodoo.
