Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Early Rocket content is wild because everything is just Rocky Raccoon references
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI don't think so, although he was on the Annihilators which were very briefly the Guardians' successors after the Thanos Imperative.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMoving away from GOTG 3 for a bit, does anyone get the feeling that Eternals is going to be compared to Avatar at some point? Given that they both involve aliens and are about gorgeous visuals and all...
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."The Eternals weren't the ones that brought about mutants and mutants probably already exist anyway.
That's probably all we'll get, that mutants were always around.
Granted, that's mainly with Savage Hulk, as Devil Hulk pointed out.
Banner can't do much to stop Devil Hulk from killing anyone.

Yeah, and since we know that the Celestials are going to be heavily featured in the Eternals, there's an opportunity there.

I feel like a simple "mutants were always around, we just haven't mentioned them before" option would be like having a trilogy where a significant 3rd party to the main conflict is suddenly introduced in the final chapter with no foreshadowing in the previous two films and no reasons given why they haven't intervened previously, thus completely changing the entire tone of the conflict in the process.
Integrating mutants into the MCU is going to have tradeoffs. There's no way around it as trying to avoid the issue by not having an explicit reason for their previous absence has it's own pretty significant tradeoffs attached.
"Hello, my name is Charles Xavier. I teach a school for mutants to learn to control their powers and not be dangerous to society. I am also the most powerful telepath in the Marvel canon, and can erase as many memories as I need to in order to preserve the mutants' secret existence."
"So you've just been out here, hiding from all the secret organizations and superheroes and stuff? I mean, why do that? Why not trust the rest of the world with knowledge of you?"
"Well, I wouldn't say all of them. We did receive a lovely visitor from S.H.I.E.LD. some fifteen or twenty years back. And oh my, you would not believe the things I read in his mind! Well, I'm sure you would now; I believe all of that stuff has been leaked on the internet."

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Moving away from GOTG 3 for a bit, does anyone get the feeling that Eternals is going to be compared to Avatar at some point? Given that they both involve aliens and are about gorgeous visuals and all...
... that's the broadest comparison I've seen since a few days ago on these boards where someone went "He Who Remains is like Saddam Hussein, because they're both authoritarians who when they died, left a chaotic situation."
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Yeah, my ability to draw comparisons to other things kinda sucks, doesn't it?
Although the Avatar question is less about me personally, it's more me wondering "Will critics and audiences negatively compare those two films to one another in an attempt to seem high and mighty?"

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Maybe it's just me, but people either seem to have long forgotten about Avatar and have little interest to see the sequel, or they're James Cameron superfans and want it to be just as big as the first.
We'll just have to see. I personally don't think Avatar is all that amazing in retrospect. But it still had some unique ideas, and if the sequel expands upon them in detail in a way that makes me care about Pandora again, I'll give it full marks.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."

He has a wife?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
