Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah, but Danny DeVito is in his mid-seventies. I think it would be hard for him to play a big action role like Wolverine at that age.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."The one character I'd really want Danny Devito to play is Mojo
◊. I think he'd kill the "evil, megalomaniacally corrupt and amoral Hollywood producer" aspect of the character.
Looking it up, Hank was nebulously active during the 60's (like, in a "maybe" sort of way), definitely active during the 70's, and their big final mission was during the 80's.

Danny Devito wouldn't be a a bad choice for Omega Flight's Puck, however. Mostly because I wanna see Devito delivering Puck's iconic speech from Immortal Hulk: "When I was eight, I hunted my first bear. Big grizzly. That was 1922, in the Yukon, and he kept us through a cold winter. In Spain, I fought bulls and fascists—and I let the bulls live. In Nepal, I hunted the tiger god and killed all fear in me. I've fought queens of dreams and the world's secret master. I've fought demons in Hell and stolen their thrones—and those thrones haven't bound me. And it all comes back to one thing. I was eight, full of bear meat and adventure—and I made a vow, Mr. Creel. I vowed I would live an interesting life. I think I've done okay so far, eh?"
EDIT: Devito as Mojo is also inspired.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."I don’t think Wolverine’s sex track record has anything to do with his appearance
Maybe it’s his musk
Forever liveblogging the AvengersCanada has been riding that Weapon X atrocity for years.
Nixon built a UFO powered by draining the life out of mutants so he could try and take over the country and nobody calls America a hell hole.
Also: the frequent, frequent Sentinel programs.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers@Matthew Wayne To be fair, we did get a brief reference to Department H in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (if I recall). So, we might get an Alpha Flight film or TV show but it will on the backburner of post-Infinithy Saga projects.
Is it wrong that I often think about similarities between Saddam Hussein and He Who Remains?
I mean, yes Hussein is a significantly worse person and committed far worse atrocities. But both of them were powerful dictators who, for better or worse, controlled what they put themselves in charge of with an iron fist. And when both of them were killed, it created a huge chaotic situation that's actually somewhat worse for the world overall.
Maybe I'm oversimplifying it, but I think that's kinda interesting.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."
That's how it often is with any authoritarian leader / dictator. One of the reasons they stay in power is not violence but the belief that any alternative is worse. And in some societies, both modern and historical, that belief is sadly true.
It is ultimately the "freedom vs security" question, and sometimes the fear for one's security is so great that people are willing to sacrifice a lot of freedom. Basically, the less we trust others around us, the more power we are willing to give to someone who would protect us from them.
Especially in times of war (external threat; that's He Who Remains' argument) or in deeply divided societies (internal threat; like tribal and religious differences in Iraq).

Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous. As Ben Franklin once said, a people who are willing to sacrifice their own liberty for security deserve neither and, more importantly, will lose both.
When you give up everything to your government and they don't reciprocate the favor, there's not much you can do except begrudgingly continue to support them out of fear they'll either become or get replaced with something even worse.
He Who Remains is very much the latter situation.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I don’t really buy that all of HWR’s actions were necessary. Like, if he just wanted to prevent his malicious variants from emerging, couldn’t he just prevent his own birth in each timeline instead of cutting every variance at any point in time? If he had to force the multiverse to stick to one sole timeline, why not pick one where things turn out better for everyone overall like Starlord T’Challa’s or Party Thor’s timelines? Doesn’t more timelines mean more heroes who would be able to oppose the Kangs? If he has such a good reason, why has he kept it secret from everybody including his own enforcers?
So, he's gonna end up in a homosexual relationship with Mephisto?

I dunno. The "cast Danny DeVito as this person" thing is getting to be a Discredited Meme for me.
