Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Especially since there's literally nothing stopping her from shapeshifting into "herself, but wearing clothes".
She might still be technically naked in a Fridge Logic sort of way, but that's not really the issue.
I mean Bryan Singer was the director of the first two X-Men films, so.... yeah...
She was naked because Bryan Singer wanted Rebecca Romijn to walk around the set naked. There's really nothing more to it than that.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.....I assumed it was make-up over a body suit....
Was she like, actually naked? 0_o
One Strip! One Strip! Before DOFP came out J Law was on record saying she was really happy to wear a bodysuit instead of having to sit and get painted for eight hours
, which, yeah, the bar for our superhero actresses was in hell.
Rebecca Romjin was a model before she went into acting, so she presumably had a greater experience and tolerance for obscenely long preparation times (runways being notorious for this sort of thing).
Romjin had not only the eight hour long preparation but also had the yellow lenses that made Romjin have to act half-blind so her perfomance in the first three films is fairly impressive with that in mind. Very physical performance, which I particularly found more impressive than Lawrence's Mystique (where she's not really going out of her comfort zone at all and just playing a blue katniss).

"All you Fascists bound to lose."As a kid, I never really saw the fanservice-like parts of Mystique's design. I just thought maybe she didn't have genitals or something.
And yeah, Rebecca was apparently more comfortable with being naked in blue paint than Mystique was. Though given the amount of hell the next actress and the painters would have to go through, I think maybe ditching the nude part of the character is for the best, regardless of how kinky it is.
And yes, I agree that Lawrence's Mystique was just a shittier Katniss Everdeen, but blue and less sympathetic.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."I thought First Class was the only one she seemed to be trying. Days of Future Past onwards is a downhill slope.
But I am also of the opinion First Class is the best one of the post X2 era and that DOFP is actually kinda shit.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Reminds me of this video praising Romijn’s performance as Mystique as very underrated.
She wasn’t a 3-dimensional character but she had presence and played the dragon very well with a great degree of physicality, being a very menacing guy combatant compared to Lawrence’s Mystique where they tried to make her a “complex character” but bungled it.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Good mystique just kind of ended up being boring. She works so much better as a real piece of shit character.
I’d kind of like to see her as a proper leader of the brotherhood in the MCU, but also, kind of hope she’s not involved since she’s had so much focus already. Preferably her, Magneto, Xavier and Wolverine will take a serious backseat for at least a while if we do get MCU X-men, there are so many other characters who need a chance to shine.

It sounds like a cheaper alternative to CGI,practical even, but there's clearly elements of "we just wanted to see her naked in blue paint"
