Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Jokes aside, I do unironically think Macaulay Culkin could probably play a pretty good supervillain.
When he does appearances these days, it tends to be a fair amount of black comedy, including that video he made that was effectively "what if Kevin grew up to be a serial killer?"
I could see him playing a decent version of one of those disturbed street level types like Bullseye.

There. That's it exactly. I was trying to think of the the kind of villain I saw for the kind of stuff he does, and yeah. Arcade is perfect.
That said, my list of actors (or actresses, if they do a lift) who could play arcade is getting bigger and bigger all the time. It already includes Daniel Radcliffe, Josh Gad, Cameron Monaghan, etc, etc...
Whoever portrays Arcade would have to be adept at portraying a total loser. Arcade's more or less a bored rich guy who puts people through ludicrous death traps For the Evulz.
Now that I think about it, I wonder if the MCU could make the Avengers Arena storyline work.

Disgusted, but not surprisedWeird thing I just realized.
Okay so its noted that Thanos got a personality and motivation change from going from a very card-carrying villain to someone more dignified and noble-ish.
The weird thing is that it also applies to Ultron, I never noticed that before. Ultron in the comics is a mad dog, motivated to destroy humanity purely by pure psychopathic hate. The movie though emphasizes a more tragic portrayal of the bot, where there's more dramatic position about how its a tragedy he fell so low of his noble purpose.
Its odd to notice.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."MCU Ultron isn't dignified either. He pretends he is, but it doesn't take much to expose his Psychopathic Manchild nature.
MCU Ultron essentially embodies his creator's Control Freak tendencies and obsession with keeping everyone safe no matter what. Except worse since he lacks any of Tony's restraint or moral compass.

Disgusted, but not surprisedIn terms of hype I've u-turned on the Eternals in the past few months.
At first the only thing it seemed to have going for it was being set over thousands of years (which genuinely interested me) but now I've grown to be interested in the family reunion plot, an introduction to the Celestials, and the fact that some of the powers on display look slick.
Also the hints are that the team broke up in part because they grew to love humanity so much that some of them did want to start interfering or wanting to live among them. And that kind of warms my heart.
If MCU Ultron were based on Hank Pym he’d call the Avengers wombats
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI kind of feel like regardless of who the "base" for Ultron is, Ultron would eventually come to a Kill All Humans mindset. It's amazing how many problems you can solve with murder if you have no moral compass or attachment to humanity.

Disgusted, but not surprisedWhile valid Zhao's also really good at directing casts of non-actors - her last two movies both have people playing fictionalized version of themselves - so the hope is that giving her an Ensemble Cast of mostly well-established actors is giving her gold to mine from.
